When it's getting tamed, there are little hearts that fly out of it. The hearts fill with another color as taming progresses. You can see the hearts from outside alert distance.

Why would you let them spawn this close? To prevent this simply build in a manner that prevents mob spawns inside these areas with enough workbenches.

I think this is a fantastic idea. Chickens are a good livestock, they can provide eggs which can improve the available recipes, and having them strut around the town pooping on stuff and chasing bugs ..

Sounds like you need to learn how to make proper defenses. Also, place workbenches in your walls or wherever else you can put them out of the way.

WOlvesTame wolves and let them go around your place, no matter if anything is spawning, they will not last.

I tame wolves, breed them, and stick extra outside the walls. Many die each event, but they kill a lot and distract enemies from attacking the base.
