Found a mod that can alter terrain en-masse: Hoe Radius from Nexus mods. With this you can easily raise an island in a few clicks.

Personally i found solo to be a massive grind. Finding the Merchant and bosses takes longer since you are the only one looking for them. Getting the metals for gear and craftign upgrades takes longer ..

It's not a voxel game. The terrain simply uses a height map, and the game only lets you raise or lower any point on that map a maximum distance from its original elevation.
