I guess what makes it so addicting is... while there IS a main quest, there's also a million different things to do at any given moment. Which makes it a vampire of my free time

I started with the spear, because it was superior to the club. But once I got the sword, none of the spears have appealed to me at all.

I rarely hit more than one enemy at a time, so it doesn't really matter to me. Still, it's a valid argument.
