There are some good mods for this, Valheim Plus is what I use, it increases the range of work benches and wards, with an individual setting for a wards spawn control radius.

Dirt walls, not stone? Really you just need to be able to stop their movement across them, so 1 raise wide and 2 tall will do it, but 4 tall is better. In either case you have to use your pick to care..

If you don't want raids, kill the bosses on a different seed. That's about all you can do if you're that attached to never learning how to fight.

You can, but the margin of error is way slimmer than most other mobs. I have done it once, maybe twice, and I never capitalize on it cause I am so shocked it worked I forget to attach in time.

post a screenshot of what you're referring to, i suspect those "starred" items in the build menu are the Crafting Station Upgrades, they will always have a star beside them.
