There's already mod support. There are hundreds of mods on The Nexus and Thunderstore.

Full controller support was included in the last update I believe.

i don't know what do you mean by guardians... wards? If so, you can bury them underground to prevent mobs from destroying them.As for safe zone, spam the area around the base with workbenches or campf..

It often helps to use other, similarly sized pieces to provide easier snap points from another direction. For your problem example, try snapping a vertical beam to the end of the wall, another on top ..
