the noise of hitting rock with a pickaxe or a tree with an axe attracts all nearby mobs. Just using a pickaxe on dirt doesn't seem to cause trouble.

Tips for ming copper.

if you have the time dig a deep trench all the way around the copper deposits, since its dirt the mobs won't show up as much . And once your done with the trench the mobs can't get to you while you dig the copper deposit itself.

And for the deposit, once your deep enough in the trench dig out the bottom the copper depost. Don't worry about the top part. Once you deposit isnt' supported by anything the whole thing turns into rocks and ore drops. Just like taking out the first level of a building, everything above just turns to drops. its a lot faster than diggin the copper deposit out normally.

forgot to add, this should also work for Silver.

yes, hitting stuff with an ax makes noise that draws in mobs from all around

do a quick run around and wipe out all mobs nearby before digging/chopping
(also create a make a workbench to stop spawns in your work area)

fist you have the spawns that spawn in when you are in the area.. then when you start doing stuff that are louad.. the spawns will come, if you kill them, more spawns will come.... even worse in the night :)

Oh yes, I seen this happen before with a small pile of copper.
So guess I should do this for the whole piece. This is great tips !

It seems to, not sure if it's intended but it seems like it is. Could just be that wandering monsters path into you easier because you're stationary. Either way i know if you're mining then you'll run into enemies.

From experience, it seems that making noise is the thing that attracts attention to you. So chopping wood, mining, etc. will attract attention of monsters and have them come find you.

Which to me really does make sense, since we are essentially trespassing on their lands. So I would heavily lean on this being an intended mechanic.
