The first time I killed him, I built a small platform three ladders high on top of the huge skull from where Bonemass is summoned. I summoned him, quickly climbed up to my little platform and casually shot him with many arrows until he was dead.
Did I die? Nope, not once. At that height I was well out of range of any of his attacks and the mobs he spawned couldn't reach me either. It was like shooting fish in a barrel lol.
Some, might call that cheesing... some might call it smart planning ;)

7 kills, 0 deaths

Zero, the big O, none, poison damage was laughable and his physical was even less. I guess i was a little over prepared for him.

Well sounds like lots of stress xD i think i will try to cheese it even more than you.

Or to be accurate, your way was the normal intended one. Dying and retrying is the normal way the game works.

If people want to beat a boss by dying over and over I say let em.

Personally didn't die once on bonemass. Didn't down the thing on first try though, mainly due to lack of potions. After getting my potions in order, Bonemass went down relatively painlessly. Just need to dodge/parry well and keep poison resist up.

I did this in fully upgraded bronze gear.

I died once, from not keeping an eye on my poison resistance enough and not backing off to let it cool down the last 20 seconds. Ended up in a silly situation and hit by 2 blob's poison with my health potion on cooldown and food low. I knew I was a dead man so I ran a bit towards where I knew I'd be coming back from the portal.

I wouldn't say you cheesed it, doesn't seem like you were doing something that made the fight not really a fight. You were trying to do the fight, were learning it and just made mistakes. I bet next time you'll do it far better.

I'm not quite sure what you mean about the fairness thing. I don't think the bosses despawning is a great idea. I don't think it changed the fairness of what you did in the slightest. Your clear of the boss took a few deaths, you paid the skill and time price for those mistakes.

are you parrying? i had a friend with me when we did bonemass 1st time, but i only had a staghammer and troll gear. possibly he's just way tougher now.

What is high food to you? Serpent stew and lox meat is the way to go for that fight.

With Iron gear you could have got obsidian and frost glands from the mountains as well and had frost arrows.

Cheesing the fight is when you wall him in and shoot from a tower. A lot of death is not cheesing.

serpent shield can't parry

I died 46 times, it's not easy being blind for 97%.
It took me a while before i realized i was holding the cultivator instead of a decent weapon.

Zero deaths. Flattened the area beforehand, 2 pieces of iron armor, iron shield, fully upgraded iron mace. Tank and spank, was over in under 4 minutes, 1 health potion used, several Tasty Meads used so I could just keep wacking away without stop.
It's really important to always finish combos with melee weapons as the last hit does double damage.
Upgrading a weapon should always be priority over armor. With a lvl 4 iron mace you would of been doing about 50% more damage per hit. Using a lvl 1 iron mace is what hurt you the most against a regenerating boss.
You walk out of poison clouds.
If his thrown gunk hits altered terrain or trees it doesn't seem to spawn enemies in my experience, as I only had 2 spawns the entire time when it landed in some water just outside my flattened area.

Built a platform with a teleporter and a workbench. Went back and forth the teleporter a trillion times reparing my bow, but I killed bonemass with bow and arrow. It was stupid and took a VERY long time, but I didnt die to bonemass :)

You won, its what matters. Yes with right prep could have killed in one sitting, but if you are learning the game, and not reading the help sites, why worry about it.
