Returning Player Question about base defense
Hello Everyone,
I was playing this quit a while ago when it first came to steam and I remember base defense beeing kind of bad. Mobs beeing either unable to breach your defenses at all or they would easily destroy them without you getting any time to defend your base at all. Normally leading to somewhat boring tactics like teraforming a deep trench or elevating your base in a way that mobs could not invade your base at all.
Now that I'm back I also heard about flying enemies immideatly going after livestock without you having any chance of preventing this.
My questions:
1. Are base defenses still like that. No actual functioning defense structures so you either abuse behaviour flaws or have to rebuild everything after every invasion
2. Are flying enemies really that much of a porblem? are ther methodes given to the player to prevent that or to intercept them (or their attention) in some way?

!. Yes, still like that.
2. The method is to make sure there are zero openings to your boar or chicken farm for "Stir the Cauldron," which comes after ice caves and never turns off. I believe the wolves and lox can handle the bats. For drakes, you need a roof, but don't have to worry about those after Moder.

1. pretty much the same as before, but with new mistlands update you have ballistas and traps but they‘re meh
2. yes, as the mobs aggro you, you can intercept them by getting out of your base

Most of us still loft or moat our bases.
While we can do better than ever at defenses, mostly, because you have to repair and don't want to lose animals etc, its largely still a game of prevention.
There are new things since you played fro the sound of it. the iron cage is a wood-wall-thin but made of iron piece that takes a lot to destroy, and its see through, good for your livestock and there is a gate for it. Needs a roof or it will rust, though.
There are also new defenses, one of which shoots anything that moves (including YOU).
2) the problem is really livestock. Nothing that flies does much damage, unless you count mistlands. I am not sure about THAT raid, I got a flier with it, but it was in the zone and probably a stray not part of the raid. I am pretty sure that a cube of iron cage with iron gate and an anti-rust roof plopped on top is all you need to keep livestock safe from any raid, assuming you go out and fight.
3) I am not sure about the mistlands raid. I got 2 pseudo-fliers, but they are melee critters that honestly can just 'jump' really well. I don't know if they were part of it, as I was IN the ML when I got it.
