Single player offline mode.
Hi,
I've got a couple of long flights coming up and keen to purchase the game but I'm wondering if it has a single player offline mode and is it still fun? Thanks!

there is no 'mode' really. The game works fine single player and that is the default. Highly recommend you disable cloud saves, but the world is local unless you start a server (players run any servers out there) and share it to do multiplayer (you have to do things to make this happen).
I play single player and have done everything with minimal problems beyond learning curve and self inflicted stupidity.

There is no hard limits between online and offline. Any world can be played either way, and the mechanics stay the same.
Game works completely offline no problem (as long as you disable cloud saves).
As for fun, definitely YES but its a different experiance. Game was made for co-op, and its most fun that way. Solo is kind of a solitary zen experiance. Its a little harder but far from unplayable. There is no story, almost no-one to interact with, but its a fun challenge.

It runs fine on machine without internet, nothing live service built in, you won't lose access to anything or whatnot (except, you know, online multiplayer lol).
The game scales based on number of people, so the bosses in single player are easier than the bosses are when you have 4 people. It's not quite as fun (survival games are never AS fun solo) without friends, but it is fun. I play mostly solo (my group fell apart with a RL death), and while I miss having people to play with dreadfully, I still play a lot.

My own anecdotal experience: there isn't any difference between the single-player and multi-player experiences, except that in single-player you have to get all your resources by yourself, and you always have all the aggro because there aren't any other players to swap off with.
That being said, you can always drag the fight through some mobs that are hostile to the faction of the mob(s) you're fighting, and watch the chaos ensue.
I'm always amused when two or more groups that want desperately to kill me stop to take potshots at each other; skelly-mans don't last long against graydwarves, but it makes me chuckle every time...
