Good vs bad seeds?

Is there a way to know if you're in a bad seed? Aside from personal preferences, of course.
I've been in 2 worlds right now and one was a big meadow surrounded by big black forest with the altar for the 2nd boss pretty handy.
Now I'm on a huge meadow everywhere with very small patches of black forest that are not big enough to spawn interesting things like dungeons and minerals and the 2nd boss was really really far. Plus sailing is not great because I'm surrounded by lakes and I only found one narrow gulf to exit into the ocean (or I could walk all the way to the shore and make a mini-dock there far away from my base). Oh and I can't find swamps anywhere, just mountains which I can't access due to cold.

So, I guess my question for seasoned players would be... Did I get unlucky? I'm still having lots of fun but I feel like I'm missing out on something. Or is that just the way it's supposed to be? I'm not complaining, for the record, just wondering if trying out other seeds and looking for specific things there would be more fun.

Thanks in advance.

That's for you, I hate pangea seeds.
And i hate loose hours sailing for almost nothing :D ( even with moder power ) not my problem if you like that
I love hunt serpents but not take a lot of time with it sailing because is f*** boring ( hours ), that emptyness and the same music is disgusting , i get really Zzzzzz
And i dont see point for make settlements far away until the game gets 1.0 for actual and full develop seeds ( believe me i tryed and i notice that i loose a bunch of hours doing that crap in far cardinal points of my original seed xD )
A pangea seed gives all you need for an EA game until ocean gets a real upgrade , only hunts serpents for sailing nothing more

Thank you, this kinds gives me a good notion of what to look for if I start another world. I guess that right now I'm somewhere in between. I have lots of basic stuff handy but more advanced areas/materials are nowhere to be found so I'll most likely have to make a secondary coastal base.

That's a really useful tool! Thank you everybody for the help, I really appreciate it.

Kind of ruins the whole explore experience though.
I have played close to 30 different worlds and never looked any of them up.

It really is about the experience desired. If you just want to make the game easy you can use console commands for everything too.
It only ruins the experience if you have a photographic memory which most people don't have.

That world generator will show you if a Maypole exists in a seed and a LOT of them don't. Similar with Trader locations but for a different reason. You can complete all the boss fights without ever finding him.

The only way to find out these things as far as I know is using that site. I've used the randomiser for a glance and by the time I put the seed into a new map, I don't really recall much of anything I saw.

My perspective is different due to how many worlds I have done I suppose. A Maypole to me is a random encounter. That is what makes it so special to me to find! These RNG things are what keep me starting new worlds and new characters to deal with it.

With that logic , dont use the map too , ruins the exploration when you can use your memory ingame lolz
If that is what you enjoy then why not?

Wasn't trying to argue about it... just saying there are infinite options! To each their own.

Thank you for your detailed answer. I know it might sound silly but gives me some peace of mind to know I'm not just lost looking for swamps because I got the short end of the RNG. I guess it's a matter of preparing and exploring.

Have a great day you too!

Good/bad in this sense is subjective. You feel you're unlucky while other players may like it for its challenges to venture out from or other reasons.

If you're simply looking for a map with all or most all bosses on one land mass or the like, there are various thread that have discussed that or you can use the wiki's seed list for such.

Thank you for your answer.
The bosses was just one detail to underline how differently arranged the two maps were, it's the lack of cores to build portals or more smelters, or no swamps to be found, etc. I just wanted to make sure I was enjoying the game as it should be for a first timer and not just got a more challenging than intended RNG. But if the nature of the game is to take it slow, lay back and explore I can also appreciate that. I'm liking the game so far and enjoying it dearly it's just that I reached a wall now in terms of progress.

That's you point of view but there are folks who use the seed map site and still find exploration enjoyable even they use it.

Also, the site allows you to toggle on or off features that it reveals as well so other than the terrain, people can opt to not see anything else.

So again while that's great for you, people play as they choose and subjectively consider it a good thing as well....

No that is just the game.
Mountains you should not go to until you are ready with frost potions etc.

RNG makes the game very different each time you play.... really makes me laugh when people complain all the biomes are the same... they obviously only played on one seed or just don't even try to think logistically for resources ha ha.

The game presents a lot of different challenges on how it generates the biomes and resources. You may have just had a super easy RNG for your first map. I like the exploring to find good resource locations thing so too easy a map is bad for me.

The way you describe your second map makes it sound like a normal map generation.

Take your time to enjoy what the game offers, it can be really interesting at times what you find!

Have a great day!
