When did the Ashlands Biome become a great place for coal and cores?

You don't even need to go that far. You can just mine out the bottom of they geysers in the swamp and farm the periodically spawning (and almost instantly dying of water) surtlings.

Swamps seem much more dangerous. In the ashlands surtlings seem to spawn in water- just go and pick them up. Also what are the hard objects that groups of surtlings stand around used for if there is a use?

Thats flamemetal ore, and it is minable but im not sure if they made any uses for it in the latest update
