Agreed. I love the exploration in this game like no other. I was going through a Black Forest last night while it was raining and the trees moving in the wind along with the moonlight peaking through the branches and other fallen trees bent over onto other trees was just so amazing. No other game I've played gives me this feeling.

This is your problem. My main island has 3 swamp location, 1 tiny with only a few trees, 1 rather small with nothing and then another small location which had 2 crypts and 3 surtling spawners.

RNG is RNG. My 1 mountain on my main island has like 5+ silver spots and 2 eggs.

The size of the swamp helps. I tend to scout them out before I commit to anything.

Had one world where the first crypt I found was in a small swamp.. it was the only crypt ... but the door was totally blocked by a tree.

I once sailed through a river / narrow waterway that ran through a swamp, just passing through, but came upon a spot with 6 crypts right next to each other, right on the water.

It was like Halloween (in more ways than one, I guess)! Load up the ship with iron from one crypt, go across the street, do the same thing...

Crypts also vary tremendously in quality. One that I went through recently had a couple of mud piles. That was it. No blobs. No Draugr. No chests. Nothing else.

Yeah, it happens. And here's a heads up for your next biome: you won't find any silver in mountains that don't reach a decent altitude.

you have to be lucky. most swamps i've found don't have cypts. but then there is one small swamp with 6 crypts where i'm building my new base.

In those circumstances you may be able to squeeze past by pickaxing the ground below, the tree should drop to follow it. Alternatively, use a couple of chairs to glitch through it.

Yeah, when I restarted my world to play H&H in order, the first two swamps I found had 0 crypts whatsoever, then the third one had 7.

If I had to guess, I'd say there's a narrowly higher chance that more distant swamps will have more crypts, since it's less likely for swamps to spawn near to the center of Valheim so they'll tend to be smaller and crowd out the crypt spawning algorithm.

"Little" biome areas tend to be devoid of certain resources, and is better to find larger biomes...

To "know" whether or not, the unexplored swamps hold crypts, means you will actually have to go there, and whether you build shelter there or not depends on if there are crypts there, BUT, the one thing you don't have to know ahead of time is that, ANYTIME you travel away from your main base, especially if its to a different island, you absolutely want to bring supplies for a portal, and should be amongst the first things you set up when you reach land (BEFORE you explore to see if the new swamps hold crypts), that way if you die while exploring you have a way to get back to your stuff.

my map has a small meadows area that is covered in couldberries
only a few furlings spawn in the zone, i put up a portal and a few workbenches to cover it to prevent them from spawning

Random generation, it happens. Keep exploring.

That can be a problem. Even some larger swamps can have very few crypts.

I would just build a small, temporary base to venture out from and see if there are crypts in the area first. It's easier to see them at night, but, of course, it's more dangerous at night in the swamps.

there is a limited supply in crypts, no real point in exploring them more than once
there may be more metal deposits buried in the swamp you can find using the wishbone (dropped from bonemass)

it is possible to have a crypt entrance blocked by an indestructible tree

build a temp base and portal stash goods, so you can cart or make trips back to your main house or refining/crafting stations
