Take them out from range, I find is the best option. Also bonemass & poison mead help with this if you ever get shot by them.

finally got all my good gear back armour weapons etc so finished here but got killed again and the way I strafe wasnt good enough so was killed again but all good now I sneaked up and got everything from all my graves.

I only used my other self to murder all around my dead body the attackers to my base only surtlings those fire thingos then killed all the mozzies then the loxes then the goblins and then i could go back to my game person who has lost a lot of skills and continue as he.

those tar critters are my only problem creature so far.

split them up if they are grouped and rather than blocking their blobs try to evade them or play around cover. blunt damage is good against them and jumping in with sth like a sledgehammer can allow you to take them out before the first burst

Remember your roots. You have gotten used to walking around in relative safety even in the plains... and have forgotten what you knew a year ago about killing dangerous enemy with your bow from stealth. One fire arrow from stealth in the best bow will one shot those things. Carefully pick your target so you don't get a group of them. If you get more than one or they see you, shoot and move like a troll or a blob in the swamp.
They are like dethsquitos... weak but hard hitting.

Solo, I would say Bows or dodge/shield. If you are with friends... the blobs will aggro on one of you, the other can run up and smack smack with a blunt weapon.

my 5 key which calls up the sword doesnt work when fighting so just when I collected all my good stuff i decided to make a bed in the goblin camp houses which needed wood so got the wood but as i had an axe and shield I was chased by goblins skeeters and something else ?? and the axe even though i mashed the 5 key the sword i didnt get it and the axe got one mossey but not the other 2 so died again then agin and just when i got more armour, i had some iron etc, i got killed again by mossies lox and goblin but finally with troll armour a copper ace and shield i fetched my better armour but got killed by a mozzie just as i got to my house and then all armour gone went to get my dead remains naked then attacked by um the fire thingoa so buggered now. going to use a good me fully armoured up from another game i played and find my home and get everything back agin but will take ages.
but never give up , still an amazing game. one guy reckons its too easy flamin hell he must be god.

SO many people fail to use the strafe option. Hold down RMB which puts you shield up and allows your strafe and perform a dodge roll. This uses way less stamina than simply sprinting around like a maniac wasting stamina and taking your eyes off the enemy. Face enemies in a defensive stance. This allows you to parry enemies you can parry and dodge roll enemies who can hurt you. So....shoot them from a distance with a couple fire arrows. When they start moving toward you get in defensive stance and when they fire tar just roll to right or left as many times as necessary because their shots will follow you. After they've fired let a couple more arrows loose...Also, as always try to aggro one at a time and draw them away from the other so you only have to fight one at a time. Most people run from enemies. Big mistake. Take defensive stance, doge roll and parry. Never turn your back and run unless you are surely about to die.

1: Approach tar pit with caution as the blobs are highly aggressive
2: Bait one out and use spring to avoid their projectile attack which they will either use after the leap ability or if they are already in range
3: Kill with mace and then repeat the steps above

1: Lure other enemies to the tar pits to fight the blobs
2: Kill the remaining enemies
3: Get rid of tar and then pick up all the drops

Once you get hit by a volley of the projectiles you need to back away / dodge roll until the slow is gone otherwise you may die - more so if you are fighting multiple tar blobs at a time.

thanks fellow forum users i will try your advice especially dont run, ha ha, thats what i did, and try the dodge to left and right maybe a bonfire might help. thanks again i will post if i suuceed but first i have to make more iron for a third set of armour, both my good ones are on my corpses.

To release the items stuck in the tar, after killing all the growths dig a trench starting from a lower point (there is usually a creek nearby) with a gradual ascent up to what you think will be the bottom of the pit. This will free up most or all the items stuck in the tar. Sometimes items are stuck even when there does not appear to be any tar, simply dig a small 3-4 foot trench beside the item to free it. In most instances 2 growths will continue to spawn every 2 game days, so be cautious when approaching tar pits you think you have cleared and drained.

I found straffing left or right while running makes them miss with all shots (I believe a set of 4 or 5 shots). Then just rush them.

That, or as others said, just pull then into a fuling village or into a pack of lox'.

For 1v1 encounters you can easily dodge roll out of their projectiles. Walking out of their attack in conventional speed-decreasing armor is not recommended as they are likely to jump towards you as well while they attack, something that makes their projectile trajectory hard to gauge.

Using a blunt weapon like the Frostner will be a good starting point, Porcupine is best for the raw blunt damage stats to quickly take it down.

For 1vX situations you can try to kite them and shoot them with needle arrows, fire arrows are too slow to kill and give them more chances to get tar on you. If you get their attacks spaced out you can go in for melee and then dodge roll quickly after but not recommended for more than 2 mobs at once.

Growths will also aggro other Plains mobs, ideally, you want Lox to fight them as you can not aggro the Lox yourself and have the problem be dealt for you easily.

Also. if you do get tarred then I recommend just dodge rolling and avoiding the projectiles for the next 10 seconds, having stamina mead is very recommended as an emergency measure. Also always have Bonemass in the plains and save them for tar encounters as they are the most unpredictable depending on how far you have to kite them and how many other mobs end up aggro-ed.

The key to success is DONT let them hit you as this will slow you down so you are doomed.
Shoot at them at max range and evade their tar spitting by ALL means... If they hit you once your are most certain doomed... If you can not run anymore use a mace and do close combat and pray...

dodge the tar by moving either left or right after they shoot ... may sound too simple but it works for me

Make sure you have the rested buff up and decent food for hp/stamina. It's easy enough and worth it to plop down a campfire and sit down for 20 seconds to get the rested buff up. If there's heavy wind or rain you might have to hide the fire behind a rock or build a small shelter for it. The stamina regen increase is super helpful for avoiding their attacks.

Drag a Lox or two past them. Or a pack of Fulings. They'll start fighting each other and you should be able to pick off the survivors. If there are still too many tar blobs left find another group of Lox/Fulings to bring to them.

If you have to fight them on your own, kite them with a bow and/or dodge behind rocks/trees. Always move to the side and don't approach them in a straight line, keeping your distance gives you more time to dodge their attacks. Try and aggro just one at a time if you can, fighting more than one at a time makes it exponentially harder.

They'll respawn at the tar pits after a while unless you place something to prevent it (like a campfire or three).
