Is Valheim at war with MOD developers?
Please add MOD support. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE....

I watched an interview that suggested adding after 1.0 because mods are likely to often get broken in early access.

it's an early access game that explicitly states mods are not supported for the simple fact that it's EARLY ACCESS AND IS SUBJECT TO MAJOR CHANGES THAT WILL ALWAYS BREAK MODS.
to expect an early access game that explicitly states THAT^ to randomly support mods just because you ask them...
your horse sure is high, tell him to throw a log on the fire and stop camping and let us hit that shi

This onus is always on the mod maker to adjust their mods when a game updates. This is nothing new and even games like Ark which have been around for close to 8 years this is the case, and that's with a studio that encourages mod making even.
All in all, its the mod makers responsibility to accommodate and adapt to change and not the other way around.

given mods arent needed to play the updated game this is entirely a user issue.

Agree to disagree. Too many QoL issues are fixed with mods that in my mind they have become required to play this game. given mods arent needed to play the updated game this is entirely a user issue.

100% if mods did not exist my friends and I would have abandoned this game a long time ago. Any game that does not offer mod support is a dinosaur.. makes zero sense. Just look at the top 10 mods, incorporate them into your game and send out a huge thank you to the community for helping you.

There is a difference between not supporting mods in a technical sense and not supporting them in a moral sense. I believe here when they say they don't support mods, it's purely in the technical sense. Meaning simply that they have more important things to focus on, like developing the core game, so if it breaks, it's on you. It does not mean that they hate mods.
When you mod there is always a chance that things will break. If you can't tolerate that kind of risk then don't mod--said as someone who actively uses and enjoys mods. But I'd rather have the devs spend their time developing the game than catering to third party modders. Mod support can come later, if they decide to do it.

Mods are not currently supported. Use at your own risk

This is an early access game and any form of "mod support" won't make a mod magically auto-update itself if it's incompatible with an updated version of the game.

The developers allow modders to make and use mods, however, the developers don't support the mods or their up-keep.
Every time the game gets a new update, the mods become disabled due to being a different version from the current version, and it's up to the mod authors to update their mods to match the current version of the game.
Mods breaking on each update has NOTHING to do with how the developers feel about modders, nor is it something the developers even do on purpose.... They update the game, and the mods require an update as well.

Just because mods break with updates, doesn't mean they hate modders. This happens with almost all games/mods. Also they say "currently not supported", which means when the game is finished, they may support mods. They gotta finish the game first, and not build around mods.
I enjoy mods and if they break, ill wait or go vanilla for a while. Patience my friend.

If the devs were at war with mods then modding would be way more difficult than it is. If you don't want mods breaking on update then you're just gonna have to wait for the game to hit V1.0 and hope they don't do any further updates on that, which is unlikely because there's gonna be bug fixes.
Edit. Also, if you got mods installed that you don't want breaking then you should turn off auto update for the game. Whenever an update is released you should then check the mods online to see if the mod creators have updated them for the newest version, if so then you'll be free to update.

by not officially supporting mods the IG devs save themselves a ton of headaches and bad PR because of the fact that they tend to break the independent mods all the time.
Think how much extra time the devs would have to spend on testing each patch and update if they also had to ensure that the Official mod loader doesn't break the game. We would probably still be waiting for the Hearth & Home update if that had been the case.
Also consider that if IG did officially support mods they would be able to exert much more control over them and how they influence the game. Useful QoL mods like UnrestrictedPortals, BetterExploration, ImprovedBlastFurnace and many others that take some of the grinding out of the game could be banned by IG because they wouldn't "hold true to the original vision we (the IG devs) have for the game".
By not officially supporting mods, and most importantly not actively blocking 3rd party mods, IG has basically given the modding community a wink, wink, nudge, nudge to go nuts and make the game much more fun than it might be otherwise.
Once the game is complete IG might start adding official mod support but I doubt they will since BepInEX already does the job so well and it doesn't cost IG a Yen. That and IG would probably have to re-write the game from scratch on a different game engine since the Unity engine they use now is so easy to mod.
A trick I used when I still played the game was to copy the Valheim directory and use Steam's play non-steam game option to keep a playable older modded version of the game handy while waiting on the mod devs to fix their mods. I've never had to worry about not being able to play after an update borked some mods I depend on. I just switched to my backup. Just remember to copy the the offical folder to the back up folder every once in awhile to have all the new content.
