Haldor is a double agent and his real bread and butter is the enemy.
He just has a few items for us to make it look good.
That protective shield around him does nothing to keep away the enemies, all it really does is prevent us from building there. The enemies just pretend it keeps them at bay while we are around.

Some of the animals will come over to your side for food. Not great roommates though, they like to chew their way out through the walls.

Hugin (bird), Odin (ghost), Haldor (merchant), and his Lox Halstein.

does the deer count as npc? i mean they cant attack so there are not mobs. ;)

He got atleast 6 places he can spawn, when ever you get close to one of these spots he spawns there and gets locked to it. So if you are really unlucky you go to the spawn thats futheste away.

I guess you mean friendly NPCs? Otherwise the game is full of them.

Yeah, I generally read "NPC" as non-hostile entities you can interact with. As opposed to saying "mobs" for hostile npc's. Yes, they are all npc's in a literal sense, since they're not the player.

Well....2 npc's if you count Halstein. But all he does is sit around & eat from his trough.

Just Haldor, no other NPC's... aside from occasional Odin sightings.

I guess Hugin the tutorial bird might count, but I made him shut up using a mod. (He was fine the first 5-10 times or so, but after that it got a little annoying.)
