Thoughts, content drought...
I know lack of content is a typical complaint in gaming recently and I dont think Valheim suffers from a lack of content however I do feel Valheim suffers from a lack of new content. It's been a while since I had played and although I am a fan I can't find myself hoping back in for new food recipes and some building changes. There are many new games coming out this fall that'll grab a lot of attention and once attention is grabbed it's less likely players return to another games, especially survival. I had hoped Valheims development speed would have increased with the amount of sales and the massive amount of interest but one of the biggest conflicts I have is if I want a survival, building, & crafting game with regular updates and new content Minecraft is the best better choice, yes Minecraft has way more funds, bigger team, & crazy mod support, while also looking at 7Days which updates pretty regularly. What I really need are regular updates that keep me from trying something else because I find it hard to recommend a game I am not currently playing where I'd rather recommend the game I plan to play or am currently invested in. I play Minecraft regularly even as a side game because the experience can be different every time which isn't true about Valheim, sure progression could be slower or I could do my one hardcore rules.

My wife and I played through Yagluth about a dozen times (literally)....we're kinda done with it until the new content is released. I agree that we need new content, but, I disagree with the folks who say that the devs are working too slow or have quit on the game altogether. To me they're just trolls who have no idea what it takes to write a program, much less what it takes to develop a game.
However, they've released a timeline and they need to honor it as well as they can or they will begin to lose players....just a fact of life. People's attention span, especially young people, are short.

Not a Live Service, they don't need to rush content to keep subscription fees and micro transaction money rolling in. They've already had more initial sales then would of been expected for years, so they are set there, which means they can focus in quality, which is the correct thing for a good developer to do.
If you expect a game to keep you entertained 24/7 then you shouldn't be looking at a $20 Early Access title, and its disingenuous of you to expect it.

It's not a live service game but it's an early access game that released at the beginning of the year with a roadmap of 4 major content updates this year of which none have been released yet. With how much the game sold, they should have the money to hire additional staff as clearly over half a year for a tiny update is just too long. Let's hope they are already working on the mistlands update so that it doesn't taker another year for that update to drop.

Are you willfully ignoring the dev updates thread that show they have in fact hired more people? And/or do you not understand hiring for game development is a long process and its not as simple as hiring for fast food? And finally many many games by small studios in Early Access go 6 months or more without any major content releases because they focus on quality over quantity. These sort of entitled demands is exactly why so many games now throw out shoddy bug filled releases and dlcs instead of taking the extra time to deliver a quality product.

My concern is that Valheim has already sold nearly all the units it will ever sell. There are no subscriptions, or microtransactions, which means the cash flow has stopped. The devs are all set for life, none need ever work again. Hiring help will not drive more sales, it will just eat into their money pile.
So what is their incentive to keep working on the title?

Wouldn't effect gameplay and people who wanted to support development could do so.
like hair styles, stuff like that
edit add - not to remove anything they plan on added to the game already.. just to augment stuff like more color options on shields for example.

No cosmetic paid DLC, that crap is absolutely useless. With modding capabilities for the game right now custom cosmetics are possible. I would pay for content/feature expansions however...but as of right now it's early access, so at this current time it makes zero sense until the game is full released anyway.I'd like to see some cosmetic paid DLC My concern is that Valheim has already sold nearly all the units it will ever sell.
