Then yea you can find some above ground and you can detect others by hitting the ground with the stag breaker.

As others have said, sure you can find them. But unless you have the equipment to mine them or survive in the conditions where it is found, etc etc, there's little point to.

Also if your goal is to skip gear needs you believe by obtaining that early, keep in mind there are people who have beaten bosses naked, passive run etc challenge wise as well making that less a need either..

Oh people, you can get silver equipment before doing Eikthyr. Bronze, troll or Root armor is all you really need, just make an Iron Pick and have some mead.

Look for golems. Golem spawn points are located near abandoned mountain cabins and/or silver veins. If you find a golem and don't find a cabin, there is a silver vein nearby. If the terrain is especially craggy above the obsidian line you can frequently find a part of a silver vein sticking out of a sharp peak.

Then all you have to do is figure out how to deal with the golem so you can mine in relative peace. Since you are in poor armor you'll have to mine slowly and pause to listen for wolves howling.... but it is possible.

I usually go into the mountains with troll armor, an iron helmet (The helmet doesn't slow you down.), an iron atgeir, the best bow I have at the time, and a stagbreaker. The atgeir stuns wolves before they bite you, and even if they come up from behind you can still get them if you're fast enough. Bronze works too, but iron is better. Use the bow for drakes and do your best to snipe them before they start bombing you. For golems, I just try to lead them away from where I want to go. They're slow and don't path well along cliffs.

No point in using the stagbreaker until you are in an area with obsidian, drake nests, log cabins, or golems. Occasionally you can find some sticking out. Obsidian says "Too Hard" too, so look for the message where there is no obsidian, or mine that out of the way for arrows.

But as far as "early" goes, you must at least have an iron pick axe, so no, you can't do it before you get iron. You might as well make the frost potion at that point.

You certainly can, however, you'll need an iron Pick to mine it. You'll also need to kill a few wolves to get the cloak for cold protection. Then, look for visible Silver outcroppings; then, whenever you see/find a golem mark the spot and once you kill him dig in the area of his spawn until you find the silver vein....90% of the time they're close to a silver vein.

What I do is: get enough iron from the swamp to make a pick and huntsman's bow level 2; go to the mountains where I hear wolves...move into the snow and throw down a fire and try to snipe the wolves that you hear (you'll need a trophy and skins). Once I have the cloak I begin to hunt exposed silver veins and golems. I always make Drauger Fang first then the armor. This mostly trivializes anything in the swamp.

well in rare cases silver veins can appear at surface level but you need an iron pickaxe to mine it.

think about damage taken from drakes and how to dodge or block wolfes! what is your armor level?
i was few times over there and found onion seeds, tamed few wofves but almost died :D
think about risks is it woth it

Instead of randomly digging hit the ground with the stag breaker and if you get the message "too hard" theres a good chance silver is under you. The "too hard" message can also come up if near obsidian or if you are over buried treasure of some type also found in mountains. Careful though as using stagbreaker attracts nearby enemies.

You can also get iron in the swamp this way and I often do it to get a stonecutter early on.

Dont dig randomly, run around slopes, silver sometimes sticks out. You can also take a hammer (like the stagbraker) and hit ground, if the vein is near it will pop up "too hard".

But its really only useful if you want to boss skip.

And if you want the cold resistance, just find caves instead for fenris coat, no need for fires in them.

i have full level 3 set of troll armor. or losing that set bonus for putting on a level 2 iron chest peice

use the stagbreaker method to find silver. it works like charm. not that hard to find the silver. for mineing it you need either a troll or a iron pickaxe tough.

heck its possible to get krom/arbalest and carapace spear (mitsland weapons) early actually. but of course very dangerous as 1 mistake will send you right back to your grave.
