You will struggle until you get mistland gear. Endeavor to persevere.

Can't say I am much a fan either. The flying tick is just strange af. The little critters it drops are very powerful. My main is dead atm for finding that out. I did an enormous amout of top soil removal in hopes of thwarting any major changes in/on/around my island, and it's an utterly differentiated landscape, than a day ago. And I am not thrilled to say the least with the two new types of airborne mobs, when we just have out bow. And a crossbow at some point when you make it. But, really it seems like a ton of new grief mechanics than a well construed biome development. Like they all did something after getting paid and all of them threw in an idea they saw elsewhere. Like rabbits from The Long Dark, Magic and flying ticks from who-knows-where. I mean the bats and cultist and fenrig seemed weird enough, I'd hoped they would curb it. Maybe come back to fixing internal mechanics, doing quality passes on the material they have, and further tuning it. But, nope. A bunch of movie special effects and nuisance mobs. To go along with (finally) the few more building components. I mean where in the heck did Tar creatures even come from. So, many things getting poured into something that resembles no Norse Mythos I have ever read. All they ever do is add things to carry, and mobs that hit for insane damage, relative to available defenses.

yea as a casual and solo player I'm not even bothering with mistlands at all

dont forget the giant flying ticks that show up when you are distracted

Got fully upgraded weapons and armor from plains, still get 2 shot by a 1 star seeker.
Extremely overtuned.
