I take it that you mean the "ward" - no, that does not prevent the destruction of things; it only prevents other players from opening "your" doors and chests and also gives a warning tone when someone attacks your stuff - e.g., walls and chests.

The ward seems more aimed at keeping honest people honest.. and.. preventing someone from 'borrowing' something and 'forgetting' to return it. It also isn't too bad as a backup alarm vs spawn mayhem possibly even raids if you're crafting or semi-afk.

Ten players per server isn't a bad limit where griefing is concerned; much larger and you may find cliques forming and people feeling slighted, and the temptation for thieving and/or griefing creeps in.

I've seen 'server side character saving' as a proposed solution; but that doesn't solve the problem. It just keeps an absolute stranger from hauling loot elsewhere. Griefing behavior isn't about making a profit, its a sickness where joy is found in other's grief, usually self-justified in some manner by the griefer.

The ward only slows down the process of breaking in, but does not prevent it. A person attempting to break through a door or chest will eventually succeed, and even if the house owner is standing there, they cannot do anything to injure or kill the would-be thief since pvp is not possible unless everyone involved has toggled the friendly fire on their own screens.

Bottom line is, there's only one thing preventing griefers from getting in and causing damage, theft, summoning mobs etc., and that is the PASSWORD on every world, and why people don't allow randoms to join their games. (there's nothing in place to stop griefing)...
As I mentioned previously the game is designed to be a solo and "coop with friends" (people who trust each other) type of game and NOT an MMO.

People who steal and destroy.
Game is mostly co-op

If you want PVP you need to find people who want to do that specifically.
Most servers are locked for that reason, they don't want PVP

The game was not made for PvP so somebody can just dismantle your entire base easily in seconds, dig a giant pit next to it that will take forever to cover over, pick up all your stacks of metal and quit the game, all while the PvP toggle is off and you can't touch them.

Griefer is what you call players who enter a game intending to cause damage, harm others, steal, raid and generally causing trouble.

By default PVP is turned off for every player and must be activated by each individual player who wishes to participate in that sort of play, so the answer is "NO" you can't "smack other players" (unless both parties activate friendly fire).

This game is not designed to be an open world MMO.... It is a SOLO or "coop with friends", meaning small groups of people (up to 10 players) who know each other working together to play the game and not a PVP game, unless all parties agree to play that way.

If you want to find other players to play the game with, you can go to the "Looking for Group" sub-forum that has literally thousands of people wanting to play with others, or go to the Valheim Discord.

Go in looking for groups and people will tell you the password
