Valheim finished in 4 years(?)

So I usually like to do callculations about all kind of things, even useless ones.

And a game (or programs in general) is considered "finished" when it reaches version 1.0...

Valheim is out for arround 1y by now, and it's current version is ~0.2...

I know there were difficult things devs had to face since 2020, like home office due to covid and things like that.

But to keep the calculation simple, I didn't consider any variables that would influece development time further.
I just considered the developement speed until now.

So, in ~1y, the game reached version ~0.2.
That means to me the game is currently at 20%.
To reach 100% (version 1.0) it would take 4 more years, if developement speed doesn't change.

I, for myself, am kinda happy. Because that would mean there are very many things to be added.

What are your thoughts?

2-5 years is a reasonable expectation

No one did, someone made a comment that implied that the game hasn't made much progress in 2 years which implies that they think the game should be much further along in less time.

Sorry to say, but this is completely wrong. Version e.g. 0.203.13 doesn't mean the game is 20% done, please visit https://semver.org/ to learn about Semantic Versioning.

On EA release (Feb 2021) the game was feature-wise about 75% and content-wise about 50% complete.

Thanks a lot for that information.
I'll read through it.

I have absolutly no clue how version numbering works and what informations to get out of version numbers, if even.

My approach may was very wrong, but seemed somehow logical to me. But again, I don't have much advanced knowledge about this.

Well, in two years they added another 5% content so I'm guessing it wont ever be finished

Let me take a shot at it - Well, in eight years they subtracted another 25.67% discontent so I'm guessing it was finished in 1980. (factually correct as the 1st 'guess' lol)

I guess he means last two years 2020/2021?

I am not sure about that 5%.
Maybe what they added they feel about it like it is 20% or maybe just 2%. Who knows ...

You don't finish a game like this in one year. Give it some time.

Heh, to make matter more complicated, there is no real standard for version numbers.. Every dev team uses them differently.. They are really more just internal markers for devs to reference/track when a particular error popped up..
