tl;dr: I could see them adding some form of magic at some point.

like you said , the game is loaded with magic. Heal spells, heal dots, shield spells, fire balls, etc. There is lightening attacks , and frost. There are abilities to run faster with less stamina, chop wood faster, change the direction of the wind , there are magic potions (mead) that do all kinda of magic. there are magical items etc etc etc...

If you don't mind going to 2D I would recommend Noita. It's a roguelite with Terraria-like exploration. It mixes a highly customisable spellcasting mechanic with incredibly interactive environmental physics.

It hasn't got building and isn't really like Valheim at all. But it still sounds like something you would like.

Otherwise I would just look to the PC communities favourite moddable games and try to make my own thing which could scratch that itch. You might have to make compromises like losing the viking setting or something.

I know Minecraft is an easy answer for modding but seriously don't underestimate the mod scene that the Java version has. Being such a simple but flexible platform, it has attracted a modding community that even Bethesda's titles couldn't hope to keep up with. Even patch versions which are many years old are still getting new content to this day. You can essentially build your own perfect idea of a game, if you can look past the blocky visuals of course.

That Noita looks awesome to me, wish it was mixxed with Terraria! Tbh I think that has made me wanna play T a bit more again! Thanks for the suggestion!

OP wasn't exactly clear on what they wanted specifically beyond magic.

Call of Duty (any entry) is just as similar. You control a character and there is combat involved, as well as some story. /s

It's clear that one of the most important things about Valheim is actual base-building and typical survival element (resource gathering, hunger/thirst, etc.).

Neither Oblivion, Skyrim or any other Elder Scrolls game is in any capacity similar to Valheim except maybe that there are some Nordic/Viking culture elements present and that you can describe worlds of those games as "medieval fantasy". Please, use your brain cells from time to time.

V Rising isn't really like Valheim, since the world is pregenerated and fairly small and cramped. At least IMHO.

Being an isometric game doesn't help either.

It's not a bad game, but it's not a Valheim (and it doesn't want to be since it's mostly aimed at the PvP crowd).

And I answered.

Instead of telling me how wrong I am how about trying to come up with something better yourself?

Another option is that there are Mods that can add magic into Valheim.
Off the top of my head I can't think of a survival-building game that has magic.

I am aware of no such game. What would that even look like anyway? Would it be light on magic, just Valheim except you can throw out little fireballs or lightning bolts as attack spells. Or would it be heavier on magic so you would use a move earth spell to raise walls or make pits kind of like an earth bender from atla. What would spell casting and progression even be like? would you have to harvest rare ingredients to make spells, would there be spell formations made from placed runes, alchemy? And how would all of that play with this style of game?

I've heard good things about this game from 2 buddies who played a ♥♥♥♥ ton but moved on from Valheim:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/342940/Project_Gorgon/

I am still hooked on Valheim so have not tried yet/cannot attest to similarity. Check it out maybe. :)
