Grind or not?
Thinking of getting this game, just need to know if I have to grind for resources all the time. I'm not a grinding type of person and i find this really monotonous and tedious. Thanks for the insights. Give me your opinion on this aspect.

It does have grind, but it kind a good grind ya know? It hides it well. You do a lot of exploring in new biomes to find new resources and then load them up on a boat or pullcart and head back to base to turn them into ingots and then gear.
Valheim's most popular mod "Valheim PLUS" lets you easily tweak drop rates for ores and other resources so you can basically make the grind intensity a matter of choice.
I think if you're looking forward to what's beyond the first 3 bosses, then it's a good grind. Personally, the meadows and black forest is it for me. So, for me it's become a bad grind lol. I really wish there were more to do in the first two meadows aside from building, and making a boat.

of COURSE it's a grind... it's a survival game, and you will constantly need to gather more stuff to make better foods and gear so you can move on to higher levels of game....
If you are looking for an easy game you can just zip through without any effort, this one is NOT that game. Seems like it's too much effort to go watch a few videos to see exactly what the game is about, huh? You are seriously going to buy (or not) a game based on opinions from a few people in forums? Good luck with that.

Do you enjoy walking or sailing for in game days while not finding what you're looking for? Do you like chopping down trees (that can kill you) or pounding on rocks while constantly being interrupted by beings that you can (mostly) swat like flies? (Be careful though, in Valheim, fly swats you.)
Apparently I do like these things because I keep coming back. It has a nice atmosphere. Sort of meditative in a way. But yes. Lots of grind.

"Grind" has become a meaningless term as someone is bound to apply it to anything ever. "I have to press a button more than once ever to play the game? GRIND!!!!!"

Let me put it this way: if not for grinding, you could beat all bosses in like 4 hours, now it takes you like 30.

It comes down to the amount of repetition of session- or loop-length chunks. In this case, yes, you will have to repeat certain time-consuming, indistinct tasks many times.
I've been on this forum since Feb 10 and I think this is the first time I've actually seen a seeming majority of people admitting the game is very grindy.
Here are some ways that the game is padded out to feel like a "grind":
1. Resource weight is often very heavy, so you have to make multiple trips, which can take over 20 minutes each sometimes, unless you live out of pocket and carry a cart of stuff with you everywhere (which is like playing Spintires/Mudrunner for the whole game)
2. Several features of the game are designed around forcing you to hover over progress bars - for example, filling a smelter with coal and ore will not complete the smelting of all the ore in the chamber
3. If you die (the game is pretty easy IMO so this wasn't a problem for me, but your mileage may vary) you drop all the equipment you ground for as well as quite a few hours of skill progress, and it's sometimes unrecoverable
4. There is fast travel in the game, but you can't take the most valuable resources (ore mainly) through the portals that serve this function
5. Boats in general are unnecessarily slow seeing as how there are no real features to take in on the ocean (and serpents could just be sped up to compensate)
6. Even discovering the location of some bosses will require you to visit their respective biomes anywhere between 1 and 20 or more times before you finally find them
Let me put it this way: if not for grinding, you could beat all bosses in like 4 hours, now it takes you like 30.
This is basically right, but I doubt even the upper quartile of players are completing the game in 30 hours. 50-60 hours would be more believable to me. In other words, it's not 26 hours of grind, it's more like 46 or 56.
When I played through the game, I got the impression that the team was very proud of what they've finished (as they well should be), but they were more ashamed of the breadth of what they've finished, which they tried to conceal behind a massive amount of unnecessary padding that wasn't fooling me.

Game is very time consumming. Making anything can take a lot of ressources, at least if you're playing solo. It is a fun game but if you despise grind, maybe skip that one.

depends on how large you want your settlement. small houses (low material ) no not at all, mind you that exploring too fast will not come out well so advancement in technology is a must. Upgrade your equipment is important and improving skills. There is a lot to take in,
the best way to play is just have fun... you want to build - build a castle - explore the corners of the world
problem solving is part of the game your getting too many mobs while mining -- get material to build a fence.
Dont be afraid to visit places, sometimes the only way to get to the next step is to dive into the cave and search around.
again its about having fun, you want o build a farm -- farm like a rancher -- building full settlements are always need improving -- hunt down every boss - explore every corner and island plenty of stuff to do to mix things up.

Well, progression is linked to different types of resources that you acquire in different ways. You'll be chopping trees and mining rocks to build things.
Mining ore deposits, delving into dungeons to craft weapons and armour.
Scouring the various biomes for more advanced crafting materials.
Etc...etc....
It's to be expected in this type of game and your tolerance of it is impossible to measure. To me, 'grind' comes into it having to do so excessively. So, IMO, there can be times when it feels a bit of grindy...not all the time though.
At the same time you'll be exploring and fighting baddies and being immersed in a beautiful world, so again, for me, the other aspects of the game outweigh the amount of grind that comes with it.

No, game is more about building outposts and gearing self for next encounter. Something like Minecraft.

...after you defeat the available bosses, which doesn't take very long: yes, you grind away on harvesting trees and stone for constructions and then you have to keep farming to keep eating enough every day to keep your health bar high enough to NOT die from falling from the 2nd story of one of your constructions...as you build.

The grind for resources is most of the game. You explore and build based off resources to make it easier.
That said I think you should avoid this game. I really like it since I have nothing but time to kill and don't mind the grind. But if grind for resources is something that bothers you then you should just look elsewhere for a game.
Not to put the game down at all, I have 1000 + hours playing it so far, it is great for what it is but if you don't like the basis of it then you should steer clear.
