Mistlands Is Strange.

Why bugs though? I’m an entomologist and I fail to see the connection to vikings. The Abomination is sorta spider like and based on a local legend. But bugs don’t really fit.

You could also ask, "Why lizards and amphibians?" when looking at Necks (nixies), Hares and Lox.

Necks are lore friendly don’t know about the lox. It fits better than bugs though

By lore friendly i mean it’s sorta based off something in mythology

personal guess.. the arachnophobia crowd was catered to. in all fairness valhiem itself is a world that doesnt directly exist in the myth, so while it can be based off of the 9 realms it can also be its own thing and very much is.

so you know.. dictation of fiction is the writers choice.

it is quite strange, maybe the idea is to have the player feel like bugs amidst the rock formations? I mean, there is more than one way to do the "corruption of the tree" kinda thing.

The Boss is by far the mist disappointing unfortunately.

But then again, the bugs are quite diverse for the few that there are. Not sure if spiders would have been better.

personally, I can't stand the bug/alien/tentacles/corruption thing.

Long ago, the Allfather Odin united the worlds. He threw down his foes and cast them into the tenth world, then split the boughs that held their prison to the world-tree, and left it to drift unanchored, a place of exile.

I would guess the 10th realm is a place not fully understood, but also the enemies of Odin were imprisoned here in Valheim and some giants over the ages died. You find their rusted weapons and bones scattered beneath the mists but no flesh remains. Perhaps the plants and creatures consuming giants flesh were mutated and grew in size, the mushrooms are quiet large and full of magical energies, the roots are pulsating with that same power and size. Is it so strange to think maybe the bugs consuming magical giants flesh were not also changed?
