That's.. not really enough data to say they nerfed crypt spawns. That happens anyway. And, going by the world gen, on average new worlds have just as many crypts. EDIT: I'm wrong.

I have a nearly flawless recollection of what my map looked like via the world gen tool. Suddenly all areas in swamps I have not phisically visited have had 75% of the crypts removed. I would call that highly sufficient evidence. You can measure this by comparing previously revealed swamps that contain crypts to any other undiscovered biomes and visually see a large discrepancy.

If you would like I can post screenshots later. I'm also fairly certain others have posted about crypts being dialed back when mistlands came out. I wish I was making it up because I always need iron and now it's even harder to obtain in great numbers.

My apologises, you're correct. I just had a good look around old vs new gens (seed: IronTest), not only are crypt spawns nerfed but on a newer gen of the same seed half the swamps are mistlands - swamps that had at a guess an average of 15 crypts each. No individual swamp looks as bad as 75% to me, but I also don't have an old world file to check against.

It’s just luck. Stories abound about 1 core or 15 cores in a chamber. My first 5 crypts got one chain, 5 in the next two.

Burial Chambers, Sunken Crypts, Frost Caves, Jotun Skulls, Infested Mines and of course Vegvisir locations are all subject to the laws of probability. Before starting a game I like to bring a seed up in the world generator[valheim-map.world] once with all locations highlighted just to show that when I actually start the game that my inability to find any of above is due to my poor or lazy exploration skills and not some imbalanced rng.

Yes. Me and my friend defeated the Elder and got the keys. But the first like 3 swamps we found didnt have any crypts. Then we found the one with 4 of them and things went REAL wrong as you can see in the discussion "Swamps Are Too Hard"

I maintain that every swamp spawn of total size X should be required to have n+1 crypts. you just go to swamps for crypts, that's what you do

Ways to find sunken crypts:

• Find big swamps.
  
• Look for the two green torches out front.
  
• Look for the sort of rounded off back.
  
• Give up, use the world generator[valheim-map.world] to "cheat".

Exploring swamps by foot in search of crypts can indeed be bit of a crap shoot. I'd recommend sailing instead, and scanning inland-ways from the boat. Might get a bit dangerous on a karve sometimes of course, but if you can't reach new swamps by foot anymore anyway, that's probably your best option.

Its like skulls for me. I just was unaware how they can be placed in biome so I just missed every single of it. Also crypts not generated in swamps that like shore stripe for Black Forest. Search for big chunks of swamps. They pretty common there. Search for doubled torches around.

They seem to have a weird spawn rate, some swamps will be full of them while others have literally zero, just go find more swamps.
