As long as I don't need to build them a home.

Maybe its just because I'm obsessed with watching and getting enemies to fight each other, but I wouldn't mind a way to get guard NPCs for your forts or houses that wander the area and attack whatever. Like how Minecraft has Iron Golems. It could just spawn in an unarmed spirit warrior who you can make gear for, if he dies, he drops it. That way, you'll have a use for your old armour and weapons.

I do feel like there is still much to be done with this game. I think some human towns would make it more complete. And you can bring back some NPC's with you to your town, to do...whatever you want. Kind of like in Conan Exiles.

Personally I hope not. The trader is enough. Maybe if they add other traders that would trade different things... but beyond that we are supposed to be in an afterlife created by the gods.. Not sure what would be the purpose of NPCs in a realm like that.

I wouldn't mind a few more. But I agree the world shouldn't be populated with them. I saw someone say they would like hireable npc to do crafting for you. Like load the forge and stuff like that. I think that would be cool. Just look at it as Odin sending some helpers for you to do his bidding.

the whole idea of the merchant doesn't really make sense rn. who are his customers? greydwarves? fulings? other warriors? was he another hero sent to valheim, or a survivor of whatever ragnorok destroyed the world? does he have a purpose for all that gold? imho it would make sense to have small npc villages struggling for survival against hordes of undead, the twisted creatures of the forest, the very gods which have turned against them whom you have been sent to kill. and the merchant has found a way to profit from their misery.

You know, now that you say it,,,that would be kinda interesting. But, this is an afterlife game where you prove your worth to the gods so having settlers in the game would break the theme. Still...would be interesting to have some slightly populated villages where you could buy other in game items like obsidian before you even get to the mountains or food items that are already cooked for you, as well as anything else. Maybe the villagers could all be spirits of adventurers as well or families that got stuck in limbo that you can talk to to get in game clues.

Who says Valheim is the only world he goes too? Maybe he gathers gold and riches from visitors like us and goes to use it in one of the other realms.

I agree. At first I thought the devs used him as a way to get things into the game that weren’t fleshed out yet. But other than him, there’s no point to gold etc. the whole idea of the merchant doesn't really make sense rn. who are his customers? greydwarves? fulings? other warriors? was he another hero sent to valheim, or a survivor of whatever ragnorok destroyed the world? does he have a purpose for all that gold? imho it would make sense to have small npc villages struggling for survival against hordes of undead, the twisted creatures of the forest, the very gods which have turned against them whom you have been sent to kill. and the merchant has found a way to profit from their misery.

@stvlepore honestly i wouldn't mind some sort of villages that where still alive since there are always hundreds of them on the map, so having like the rarity of the trader but with small villages that are alive with different types of trades would be a nice change of pace. content is content, and you could just disable it if you really dont want anything besides the trader.
