Bronze Pickaxe Is For Chumps
Pickaxes honestly need some sort of upgrade. As it stands, it way more worth it to fight Eikthyr a few times, make a few antler pickaxes, and make a normal workbench in a quick pinch. Hell, if you mine copper in a certain way, you dont even need wood for the workbench to be able to repair.
Which, I dont want changed. I like that for the beginning of the game. My point is there isn't any reason to upgrade the pickaxe. Unless I'm forgetting if bronze or better is required for silver...as its been a year or so and I havent gotten to that point yet.
Just replaying it after a while of being away.
Anyways, as a new idea for how the tiers could work...maybe each tier could give an ore multiplier (if there is one currently, I really haven't noticed), or stamina bonuses based on what type of scrap or leather its made of.
For example, maybe we could tear up troll armor to be used as scraps and give a different bonus than that off of boars. And then add one for deer. And so on.
This may fit better in the suggestion forum, but I wanted to see what the general community thought of this one. Something I thought of when coming back to the game.

Bronze pickaxe does more damage per swing and has more durability. I took both the Antler and Bronze pickaxe out with me when going to copper and tin.
I now have a iron pickaxe and it hits much harder and lasts longer. The bronze and Antler pickaxes are now retired in my old equipment box, just in case I die or loose the iron one.
I get the extra durability / effeciency, but I find the utility of repair much better, til I need more the next tier for silver and such.

It’s definitely an amazing way to challenge yourself. I did the exact same for my first play through as well - only boss I’ve beaten so far is Moder. Working on finishing Yagluth and then moving onto Mistlands next.
That sounds like a pretty memorable experience.
Currently I stole an antler from an old build, was currently going as far as possible with upgrading what I had with it. Then deciding to move forward. My next plan is to get some frost resist, and see if I can lead a troll up to the mountain to hunt for silver without having to touch the swamp (♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate the swamp), which was an idea inspired by your comment. So I thank you much for that.

Antlers are great for terraforming. Nevermind repair, the stamina cost is lower. For the same reason Bronze Axe is the best one for chopping wood. You get a little more damage with later axes but till mistlands Bronze is all one needs to chop.
For picking actual stone/ore thou, from limited testing its still better to upgrade due to damage increase. Also while mining its usually easier to get resting buff. Not rested, restING , which gives 400% stamina regen while hacking at rocks. This negates the higher stamina cost downside of better picks.
Agreed. For basic utility, the Antler Pickaxe is the GOAT. It does pretty much all you need, with the only difference being if you need a certain other pickaxe in order to mine a certain tier of ore. Yes, there are some effiecency differences, but that means nothing when an Anlter Pickaxe can be repaired by a basic workbench, and all others require a giant set up just to cart around and fix.

There is copper all over the black forest. If you are playing single player there is no issue with gathering enough during the bronze age to get every bit of bronze gear that you want. For repairs the bronze pick axe goes through portals so its easy to repair too.
Any curated or finished item goes through portal. Bronze makes no difference. Saying thats a plus means nothing. I can do the same if I finish a steel sword or something. Bronze itself or any other metal ore / ingot, does not teleport. So I dont see the point of this comment. It makes no difference. In fact it makes antlers even more valuable as they arent affected by this.

Hey, if getting a troll to follow doesn't work, Golems spawn very close to silver veins, so you can use them to mine too! It’s definitely an amazing way to challenge yourself. Unless you're just doing a very minimal amount of copper/bronze, a level 2 bronze pickaxe is a no brainer. You can easily make it in a day, and it breaks rock over 60% faster than antler. It does require a forge, but you're mining the mats required for a forge, so...

We used Trolls for mining until we have enough for Bronze pickaxes, used the chair trick to bypass the need for Swamp Keys, and used the Stagbreaker to locate our silver.
Hit a wall with Mountain Queen, though; we needed to make her cry to build Artisan Table and all the stuff that Artisan Table enables.
That sounds like a pretty memorable experience.

Iron or better is required for Silver and Obsidian. Bronze cannot mine anything that the Antler one can't. The real benefit of the Bronze Pickaxe is that you can get it without having to do Eikthyr at all. Additionally, the extra durability is useful when starting Crypts, I suppose. Unless I'm forgetting if bronze or better is required for silver

Thanks for letting me know on that. Been a while and I forgot how the tiers worked, or if they even mattered or you just needed the wishbone etc. I think I ended up quitting the last time I played after just getting silver (was doing it solo a few years back - may have lost interest due to losing a bunch of items / another game was in my radar). I dont think I ever beat the dragon boss.
Should have made the attempt to get bronze without killing Eikythyr. I think I could have managed it with a level 2 Crude bow. For instance, just for the hell of it, yesterday, I kept kiting a troill to mine 2 nodes (pretty close to each other) of copper ore. Took him down to one or two arrow shots, then just played around with dodging til the entire area was knocked down with a few awkward spikes of copper to take care of.
Took a couple of trips on the Carve but it was worth it.
Next playthrough I may have to attempt that before killing Eikythyr. Seems like camping out in the Black Forest for that objective could be a lot of fun.
I think I just talked myself into something on a Steam forum. Thats a new one.

Would still get some antlers after just for the accesibility in terms of long term (workbenches and ♥♥♥♥), but I kinda wanna do the 'bronze first' playthrough now for the hell of it. Thanks for the inspiration
