TAMING BOARS A HORRIBLE WASTE OF TIME

Spent 40 minutes of sheer boredom taming two boars. Built them a pen (resources),fed them carrots for three days(resources) and gave them love (petted them a lot), and they produced NO offspring in four or five days of repeated feeding and attention. They ate approximately 30 of my carrots in that time (which take several days to grow), and did *nothing*. YES I was in range and stood around them much of that time, but i am NOT going to stand there for hours for ONE PIECE OF MEAT. As i stood there at the end of the week a cold event which spawns drakes occurred, and they *immediately* targeted both my boars and killed them. I could have just KILLED boars ANYWHERE for about 150 pieces of meat in the time I wasted trying to get ONE. Thanks for finding NEW, CREATIVE ways to make us completely waste our precious game time guys, well done. Absolutely PATHETIC. This game is ***amazing*** and I understand it's in BETA, and some ideas are hits and some are misses, but this is **Ridiculously** bad and poorly thought out. If I didn't know better, I'd say this is a *classic* example of dev's flipping the bird at the people who put money in their pockets and trolling players with time wasting gimmicks (A popular past time with game devs).

Tame a 2* boar, then as it breeds, kill off the non/one-star offspring until it's all 2* left. They drop guaranteed 4 meat per. I have a small boar farm, and it generates more meat than we can use.

As for food consumption, the AI will consume food even if you're out of range it seems. If this happens, the boars don't seem to breed, even though they consume the food. This appears to be a bug. As a workaround, I limit the amount of carrots I feed the boars, depending on how long I plan on sticking near the base that session.

Also, the number of boars per pen seems to be tied to pen size. Make sure you pen is large enough.

In any event, it doesn't seem enough of an issue to cause the rage fit of your post. :-D

I had opposite experience.
My boar pen is in remote place where I need to go through portal, I left them some berries when there were 3, when I checked back some time later, there were 6.

Something went wrong in your experience. Boars breed extremely fast. You don't even actually need to be there much. Stick around for 2 or 3 minutes, and they'll get knocked up, Go off farming whatever, and when you come back to the pens and the area loads, they'll start popping babies.

So, figure out what you're doing wrong. One possibility is that you have a torch nearby. They're not good at breeding if they're running around scared of the fire. Another is that the area is too big, and they're always hanging out on opposite sides, though I imagine you'd notice that. The last option I can think of is that you just got a bugged boar.

Once you figure out what went wrong, you'll find breeding is pretty easy. However, I do recommend taking the time to find a 2-star boar to breed, as it really makes it much more worthwhile. I have 8 little pens with 2-star boars and I'm swimming in meat any time I slaughter the extras reducing each pen back down to a pair.

(edit)
Also, yeah, don't feed them too much at once. They'll only mate and give birth while you're in the area, but they'll eat constantly. Once they've mated, the timer on the pregnancy will continue without you being present, which is why there are often mass births when I return to the pens. Just show up, give them a lit bit of food, stick around long enough for them to get busy, and you're set. Later on give them a bit more food, and watch them pop babies and get busy again.

I never saw the benefit in taming. I get plenty of resources from them as they attack me when they are "scared," as I chop wood lol

I put the pen near field, so every time i tend the farm the boars do their thing..

They are indeef pretty useless though... i get like 1 meat from killing 3 home boars... if you gonna breed them, try to get stared ones..

Might breed loxes or wolves instead.

Food is no issue though.
You can easily get 100+ carrot or whatever every 3 days.. you don't need so much for food and storage space goes thin fast.. might just feed boars.

Use raspberries, not carrots.

Taming is worth it only on starred beasts. A 2 star boar pen can net you a ton of meat and leather scraps in record time but it does take time to find 2 2 star boars.

Same with wolves eventho I find boars more profitable. Also if you don't need more meat or scraps right now you can just stop feeding them and they will just stop reproducing but they won't die.

Find a meadow next to a Plain and make sure that Mosquitos spawn there, keep a portal to it and just collect loads of meat from the Mosquito kills, it's even better if Fulings spawn there too.

You only need a single two star boar to start. Breed it and it will pop out clones of itself or whatever boar you breed it with. Some will be two stars. Cull the boars who are not two stars. Before long, all your boars are two star.

So incredibly entitled. Same gripe, valid or not, could have been said in countless ways that were far less insulting.
