If you have some wood you can just lock your boat in place relatively easily using the 45° pieces.

If it is really such a big issue you can also just stand at the mast of your boat and hack it with an axe, you will pick up the nails when it gets destroyed before they can sink and it is doable relatively quickly.

I tried locking it in wood but the waves go huge and it ended up getting damage either way. That's why you can only park it in rivers or whack it up and put in a chest.

Workbenches already prevent spawning of mobs in their radius, I used that fact to colonize a plains island group safely.

No need to visit a different island. Get a boat or raft in shallow waters or ashore anywhere, and watch the local fauna attack it (at least, nekkes).

Perhaps dropping a workbench close to it should prevent critters from appearing too close?

Also, it can be reefs, rocks, or floatting/immerged logs that rammed it to death, in case of storms.

Got stuck like that myself once. Had to sail a raft across a lot of open ocean to get backc to base, but actually survived it.

Yes the good old locals will smash the boats up if it moored in shallow water. Even deep water. I have a sea Castle built in the air and the Fuelling's swim out to try and bash the Viking Long Ship up lol. Like Pipo said it will be either the necks or the Greydwarf's who are the culprits.

most people smash their boat (attack the mast in very shallow water or beached if you can) and stow the materials until they need it again. It is silly, but for now, its the best way to ensure you do not get stranded.
