I think I might have found the issue -- in a thread it mentions making sure the pigs face north as that is the orientation they spawn at on load. Just curious as to why they would glitch out to the fields -- shouldn't they have spawned in but been trapped in the room surrounding the breeding pen?

I doubt that orientation have anything to do with breeding. You have to make sure that their front legs are on the ground and back legs in the air so piglets can fall down. Maybe the hole behind them is too small and piglets cant fall down. If the hole is too small and there is no room in the breeding pen, piglets will spawn at the nearest ground i guess.

oh, no the piglets fall down just fine -- was only able to get 3 breeders to fit on the floor space. It is the breeders that are at random completely glitching out of the structure. I am going to try again but starting to get very frustrated -- also the glitched pigs were far harder to move around after glitch. I had to use berries to bait them close enough to the edge of the pit to push them in -- Lol; totally annoying.

I was not aware this occurred. I was about to embark on a breeder build this week with an air pen in mind.

Back to the drawing board. Mind pointing me to the source so i can learn about this?

Yeah, they can glitch sometimes, especially the ones you tamed. Kill them and replace them with new ones.
From my experience, it is easiest to make stairs (26 degrees stairs) and push piglets up in the pen. Once they grow up they will start breeding.

search YT for "valheim boar breeder". I use one made by SlipSlopTV with a few tweaks to make it safe from events.

yes, thats the point of breeder. Piglets drop down and are far enough to bypass breeding limit at one location. In a few ingame days i can have 50 or more boars in the pit. They breed at insane rate, but you must be near the breeder. If you move too far, they will stop breeding until you get back.

I have tried building the pig farm variations found on YouTube. It Tried the air pens and the pen where the Pigs are on the edge of the raised earth wall (so pigs touch ground ---
the air pens did't spawn
The wall pen worked but the pigs would glitch out and show up on the hill side (grounds outside the pens)

I figured it out. My breeding pens are in the air and there is a walled-in compartment beneath each one where I keep a chest for food and such. It turns out each compartment had 2 mature pigs hiding in there. I can only assume that when the piglets spawned, they spawned below the floor instead of above and hid out there un-noticed.

more room = more pigs

Nothing has changed since they were breeding. 2 pigs per pen in a 4 x 4 space. The distance has not been changed. No lights nearby. And I stay nearby to watch as nothing happens. And why are they eating so many carrots now? 2 pigs scarf up 20 carrots in about 2 game days now. Much faster than a few weeks ago.

Are you running any mods which adjust tamed animal breeding? Mods can break sometimes, even without new mod interactions.

How much space do your boars have in their pen? Animals stop breeding at some threshold of population density. If they haven't hit this population level before, this may be their maximum population.
