are you guys actually starting up the server and not just starting it as a solo?

cuz you can't join offline servers.

it will say "failed to connect" every time.

This is happening to me. We are in the same city, gigabyte internet and Failed to Connect keeps appearing. Any one know a solution?

My friend and I are having the same issue, can't figure out what's causing it but since the update neither of us can connect to the others worlds. Would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

My uncle and I have been trying for about a week to play together under local network. who who ever starts the world can play the other tries to login and gets just a black screen

Which VH are you all using (Steam,GP,Xbox)?
Same VH version? (I think the error would be different but still...)
How are you trying to connect (IP/FQDN:port, join code, server browser)?
to what (dedicated)?
Mods?
What do the LOGs[1] say? Any information more specific than failed to connect?
Has it worked at some point?
Have you tried connecting somewhere else? (to narrow down the problem to on of you)
What changed since then?
Why are you posting this in the General forum? It clearly belongs in "Bugs & Technical Issues".

How is anyone supposed to help you?

We don't know what you're doing or what exactly is happening.
You need to actually describe that in enough detail for anyone willing to help to get some kind of picture of whats going on.
