Yes, they will. They may stray off to chase things, though.

I feel your pain. My first 2* wolf died while I was transporting it by longship. The wolf jumped overboard to attack a Sea Serpent that was tailing us. Following this I took precautions, made sure I had two 2* wolves aboard and did not unfurl the sail. I went oarspeed as close as I could to the shoreline without them being attracted to shoreline mobs. It was definitely worth the time and frustration though, 2* wolves are beasts. During a horde invasion last night, 2 of them attacked a fuling berserker and it died after they each got a hit on it.

If you thinking about getting a 2 star wolf you may have to look for many nights if your playing solo before finding one.
But may be easier if you invite some friend to play with you.
Myself was ok with the one star wolf sins they deal alot more damage and are more resistant to damage from the normal ones so at say. I also have notice the wolfs die very easy from poison . So going into swamp with wolfs is not so good or plains for that matter even though they can help alot if you having a hord of wolfs when melee a fuling village.

keep food with them while taming them or it takes longer than it should, if you toss 20 stack of meat in there with them they should tame within an hour or so..

And also one thing is for sure. Wolfs are so damn nice to have like 2-3 with you when you want to chop down more wood or pickaxe copper in the black forest. They take care of all the disturbance from greydwarf and even trolls for that matter. :)

Wolves have high damage output but low health, sadly. It's sensible to tame several and breed many, and obtain starred wolves if you can (they only appear at night and finding a two star happens only once in a blue moon).

Frustrating as it is when they die, their low health makes them a more balanced enemy in the mountains, imo.

I don't get the point of this... if wolves are so fragile, why does it take so long to tame them? cold beings are supposed to be more resistant to cold... but he die from a single frozen shot from a drake? when they inhabit the same area of the game???

As mentioned, try to get a 2* wolf. It is worthwhile, particularly if you play solo. They're much more durable, and a few of them easily take on goblins in the plains. Very handy to have.

For my own game, I was wondering - do you happen to know if they tend to spawn more frequently further from the center of the world? I have many 1 stars, but have never even seen a two star, despite spending about 14 nights in the mountains searching!

In your case with the wolf, well lets just say thats a rare thing that happened because you didnt know wolf could die from Drake. If you see drake, kill drake. Ive had 2 star wolves out in the open and the dragons or drake hone in on one or 2 and they do get killed unless I take them out before wolves die, then I have to make sure they eat, their health wont go back up until they eat.
FWI, I keep 2 Wolves that are 2 stars in side my castle under cover, separated, one on each end of castle.

I found my 2 stars in same place as the 1 stars, I kill 1 star, run in a big circle to make my way back and 2 star will appear 50% of the time. Hope this helps

I built a pen for them out of stone at the base of the mountain. Then I bread so many I didn't care if they died.

That's what I did... and that fight with Yagluth and my army of wolves was fun.
