Weight vs Slots
Love this game so far! It's truly great how simple and yet complex it is.
The only thing I feel could be improved is the inventory system.
Right now it uses both a weight system and a slot system with stacks.
Either way is fine, but both at the same time are just dumb in my opinion.
Why does 1 Raspberry take up the same "space" in my backpack as do 50kg worth of wooden planks? Conversely, how come Raspberries stack to 50 same as wood, but surtling stones are stack-capped at 10?
What I would prefer to happen:
1) Use weight only as a limiting factor
2) Remove stack sizes if technically bpossible, or just infinitely expand the inventory when more items are added to it (ok... Maybe but a sensible limit of maybe 50? slots to avoid code breaking)
This way we still need to manage our inventories, but we don't have to toss out things just to bring along small treasures like perls or rubies.

Having no weight would simply make you be able to carry 3-4 k loot, which is insanely unbalanced, having no slots would mean you can carry 100 different items if they are not as heavy, which again, is unbalanced as hell. This is fine, it's working fine, use a cart if you can't carry all of it.

I think just adding character slots for gear would greatly improve inventory management. Like have armor slots, this would remove your pants, chest, helm, cape and belt which frees up enough space.

It's just mainly food and valuables that take up more unnecessary slots relative to their size and weight.

I agree, but it is very disappointing that they turned down the suggestion for giving us more slots by adding paperdoll for dedicated gear slots. We don't actually need that much slots, so freeing inventory slots from equipped gears should be a good start.
Imo Conan Exiles have clever implementation regarding carrying / equipping gears. equipped gears such as armor, legging, helm etc will half the carry weight because it is equipped, it is being worn on the body, while if carried in inventory will be full weight.
They have labeled the suggestion for paperdoll as NOT PLANNED.

But in Roadmap I see VENDOR INVENTORY EXPANSION which I guess is something to do with inventory slots, but too bad it is not priority, it's in the list of "if odin wills it" as if it's not gonna be looked at least until they finish with update 4. While inventory slots is actually a big issue. I really hate it when a game includes micromanaging itemdatabase very heavily to the point most of our time is spent doing exactly that. It's padding our playtime too damn much, managing database should be made simpler especially when done on a computer but no it's part of the game.

Not the best idear, that proberbly make inventories even smaller, as for example 1 log would have alot of volume, while 1 feater hard takes any space.
Combine volume with weight, like in reality... and you proberly then run out of space with chopping a tree, while nowhere beeing over the weight limit.
Unless you suggesting to make everything the same volume, regardless their real projected ingame volume.. Like a log has the same volume as a berry.

It's a rudimentary way to simulate the limitation of both quantity and weight of items. The weight limit is there so people aren't sprinting around with 30 stacks of stone, wood or metal. The slot limit is there so they aren't running around with 350 weight worth of low weight/low stack size items, as it presents a magnified unrealistic volume of carry capacity.
If player inventory is too lenient in either capacity, then it reduces the relevance of stationary forms of storage.

It's not meant to be realistic but rather done for balance reasons. I mean one alternative would be to be able to stack like 1000 berries in one slot. Or to only have 1 wood per slot. Both are equally bad alternatives. Game balancing isn't always about finding the most realistic setting but something that fits the gameplay best.

Agreed. There are ways a more 'realistic' system might be done but all would likely require lots of extras like different types of bags, backpacks, travois, etc with all having different volume and weight limits as well as impacting character performance in various ways - slower movement, stamina drain, skill penalties due to poor balance, etc.
Doubt anyone would really want to play like that after a quick test run.
[Edit - example] You can't fight very well while hauling your big bag of stuff so when confronted with a group of greydwarves you drop your bag. After the fight you discover that a greyling made off with the bag and some of the contents, scattering the rest and breaking a few things....
