Yes, you can.
You can also go on exploring the old world, but only areas that were not already generated will be updated by H&H materials. Iirc, areas around character are generated up to twice the distance from character to exploration fog.

They made a lot of changes to progression.

If you bring your old armor and food you will miss out on a lot of changes.


Also changes to stamina make skill level a lot more important. Bringing an old character with all their skills really will change how the game really is now with the stamina changes and the challenges they bring.

Does anyone know when is the new update for actual new content? I couldn't find it in the news section.

Probably in 6-8 weeks. But I dunno what kind of delays they're facing over there.
That's pure speculation though.
