Safe to explore in-development biomes?

My concern, which I've encountered in other games... is if I explore a biome that's in development, then when they 'finish' the biome they might wipe everything I build or explored in order to regenerate the finished region.

Or if they add a NEW region, if you have no unexplored areas, then the new region might not generate at all.

🤷‍♀️ Thoughts?

While it's fair to say that there hasn't been a definitive answer for the question OP asked, this is also not an answer to that question. H&H will not add any new regions.

any one biome you go into that is not finished will not be upgraded when that biome comes out.

Is the answer from the devs. For example, you go into a mistlands zone and it will not update that zone on your world. Thus, stay out if you want it to update. This also goes for Deep North, and Ashlands.

Neat. I was having a hard time finding that verbatim, guess I'm looking in the wrong places

But it may potentially add new spawn points, i.e. onions or dark wood.

Hoping for some new merchant items, and as a longshot a use for the "Yagluth thing"

My answer is focused on the part about new biomes in the OP, but you're probably right about that.

I imagine that new resource spawning won't be a problem since some resources already respawn during gameplay, but I think that the map/ores generate only at first load, which could cause an issue for an entirely new biome.

Since some people are giving incorrect answers as fact, as per the Existing saves and You thread pinned at the top of the forums, directly from one of the developers:

"We have seen a lot of questions regarding whether or not you'll have to create a new world to get the Hearth & Home-content, and the answer is that it depends. For the vast majority of the content you won't have to create a new server, but some content won't be available if you have explored the whole map. So if you have a lot of unexplored areas there shouldn't be any issues, but if you have explored everything you could miss out on a few things.

We are looking into solutions for this, and with some luck it won't be an issue at all, but for that we can't make any promises. More information on this will come when the update is released!"

Not really, any one biome you go into that is not finished will not be upgraded when that biome comes out.

The new biomes won't change in your current world, you will have to generate a new seed. Your old seed should still work, but the biomes will remain empty.

And if you really wanted the same land generation you could, when the biome update comes out, delete the world and make it again with the same seed. Though that just feels like a waste of time honestly

Start a new seed after updates. No worries. If you find yourself attached to a particular seed while in EA then limit your exploration. Best advise I can give you. The world is large and you can complete all the current content without exploring 10% of the map. The currently known dangers of exploration are that new content will not spawn in explored areas.

In the best case if you have explored the area already the spawns will be set and anything new added will have no place to spawn. You would have to explore another of that biome to get the proper spawns to populate.

Chances are in order to get "everything" from the new update you will need to start a new world.

At this point no one knows how exactly it will turn out.
