Why do mobs see me through walls?

I honestly feel like if I have a two high stone wall, that mobs on the other side should not immediately realize I am there and aggro me or my wall because of it. Also drakes seem to know exactly where I am inside my house when a raid begins and will switch targets from one house to my house as soon as they are in range of me. Really should consider changing this. If I am behind a wall or in a house, they should not immediately know I am there. Also, I hate the fact that every little grayling that over spawns in the world seems to love my walls and will run from where ever just to attack it until I can be bothered to come out and kill it. I am constantly killing those guys in a never ending micromanage to keep my walls at full health for raids.

I just build stone walls eventually and they no longer are a problem (not even a problem with wood palisade walls)
How to be a jerk with your comment 101.
Thats ok, you'll learn after your base gets a wipe off the map in a raid.

I think like that until " earth is shaking " comes and make poop my palisades
Stone walls help but before that a raid of those can come ( in plains do a great job if lox dont spawn near the walls and your crops in the another side )
I was afk for 5 minutes in my base with palisades and stakes and well , when i return i was in the sacrifice altar naked , so i started to use a moat , i hate earth walls because make the insanses of the game rise a lot
Sure the wood palisades are garbage, they break super fast but so does stone. The durability of buildings in this game is ridiculous, even tiniest enemies can destroy wooden structures very fast and even the stone is not a problem for most. Troll can one hit stone structures down easily.

Walk up to your bed.
Go into sneak mode, crouch.
When eye closes interact with bed and sleep to morning.

I don't want to have to micromanage insignificant enemies, but because one little greyling sneaks up to something I've built and can keep whacking at it forever and destroy it if I failed to notice them in time.

You'd think that they'd have some self-preservation, too, not just "Hey let's beeline right for the nearest built structure(s) to smack it, not knowing who/what/how many lives there." I'd rather see, say, the greylings start lurking at the edge of town, scared to come in until they gather in numbers, if you've been too lazy to address the "increasing problem." (or til an event happens, then make sure of it by piling on.) It's sensible and less annoying tedium.
(And I even tried the workbenches etc trick trying to stop spawns. I literally had a build at one point with Great Wall of China style walls, and workbenches buried inside the thick walls at intervals... never stopped spawns.)

If you find yourself getting sneak attacked by mobs breaking your walls, put wards in your houses and activate them. Any time an enemy hits a structure inside the ward, it makes a pulsing sound and it flashes a blue dome around the area it covers, so it should be much easier to notice when something is being damaged.

Nothing will spawn within a certain range of a workbench. Build a wall away from your compound some distance, all the way around. Put workbenches along the wall on the inside, far enough apart so you can repair the wall everywhere. This prevents random spawns close to your base. This will keep them from spawning close enough to hear or see you or your base, so you wont be bothered again unless you are doing something out by the wall, like cutting trees or breaking rocks..

This does not prevent special event attacks. Skeleton surprise, smell from the swamp, etc.

edit: Spawns can see fires and torches from a long way away. This will draw them for quite some distance.

They can hear you. Greydwarves has stupidly good hearing. That is why you can never hit a copper node without getting every greydwarf in the area.

If you just left your character motionless you probably wouldn't see a greydwarf. It's as soon as you start running around and using stations that they start moving in your direction.

Mobs don't attack your walls or other structures unless they have aggro. They can aggro you, fires, workbenches etc. So maybe some of these are visible over your wall causing them to have aggro towards those and trying to reach them.

They will however walk towards you if you move / do other actions as they can hear you, unless you are sneaking. That will not cause them to attack walls, as they don't seem to aggro from sounds, they just wander in the direction of sounds.

This is my first time playing through. We've only made it to bonemass and it just seems weird that that one, annoying little grayling can keep me from sleeping because he has a serious relationship with my wall for no good reason lol. And we do have a moat with a very steep edge even a troll can not climb. But its more or less a grayling racetrack at this point. Just very strange lol
