Honestly I wouldn't bother if you already have a place to farm in the plains.

You don't need an infinite amount of flour or linen. Most of the foods with flour I save for rare cases.

Of course this all may change in a few days... you may even need to start a new world to get the benefit of all the new stuff.

I guess if you have nothing better to do and are just bored, go for it.

I like bake bread for trash food ( these that u have to eat when u are going to build , farm , grind low biome resources ) and needs a lot of flour
My fortress farm is good but not have so much space to make flour in high numbers , it is in a 3 limits-biomes ( black forest and swamp ) , fulings just crush everybody outside and later comes to annoy me ( loxs too , dont know why keeps respawning very close to my walls , have lots of their meats and spawns like 1-3 days each group )
I want to try a mini plains farm island to farm everything in the game in peace when i need it

I found a tiny island that straddled Meadows and Plains. Raised it up, built my main base there. It worked great. Farmed everything. No wandering monsters, and the only event was the drakes, and it took them forever to fly in from wherever they spawned, presumably over land somewhere. There even happened to be a deer spawn point on the island already, so meat just magically appeared.

Theres is not problem with huge storms ? About ocean level and the decay damage that can do in buildings in almost sea level

Gather supplies to the Island via portal and small shack. Wait for a string storm and you'll know how high you need to raise the ground. Its what I did.

If you are unsure if it's covered fully go to far corners of the island and bang on crap to make lots of noise. Make sure you are facing away from the island as the game tries to avoid spawning anything in direct sight. If nothing shows up you are good. As long as there is no other land close by (60m) you should also be raid free even though you will get warnings. The possible exception might be fliers as its unclear if the can spawn in over open water or need land like other mobs.

Once you defeat Modor you don't get attacked by Drakes anymore so you should be safe on an island.

It's true with storms the sea level rises and will briefly extinguish your fires, but they come back on. Also as far as I can tell structures only take water damage from the sea when they are built into it. Waves don't seem to do damage.

It's a great way to farm in peace. I found one that's big enough to require 9 workbenches to cover. I can plant hundreds of barley at a time and nothing ever bothers me. A quick shack and a portal to your main base are all you need there.

I usually try and make my "main base" on a sliver of meadows between plains AND swamp so I can farm Barley and leeches. Plus this is a hoot to watch the constant battling of mobs around me... Trolls getting smacked by Loxes. Greylings getting pummeled by skellies. etc. And every few days you can just walk around and collect a bunch of mats. A one-stone high wall is really all you need around your camp and a few benches so they dont spawn inside your camp.

I did have my first barley farm on a little island with a portal and that did work well, esp not having squito attacks.

Well I have my farm in a dangerous place but I put in to much effort to change it. I have made an Island Castle though and it's rather funny when the event attacks happen and no monsters spawn because there isn't enough land. I can definitely recommend.
