As said, by night or during rainy weather, seagulls will stay landed even if you miss them. This allows to correct your aim until you can hit them.

Only use arrows on birds as a last resort. (Using a spear you can recover is a good idea- I just never thought of it). Your time and effort is better spent cutting down trees. Trust me, you will wind up using all that wood.

Whenever there is a storm, grab your bow or spear and go bird hunting. Birds are grounded during this type weather so they are extremely easy to find. Keep in mind that they will still fly away if they notice you.

the harpoon is fine for birds as well.
But really, a bird drops 3 feathers each, and 20 arrows costs 8. even if you use better arrows (pointless) you net 52 feathers. Its not that big a deal to use fire arrows or whatever your go-to trash killer is.

Craft an abyssal harpoon when you can. It's perfect for killing birds and you don't have to worry about crafting arrows. But as others have said, you can get plenty of feathers just from cutting down trees.

I never bothered with birds. I have so many feathers from felling trees and looting chests, they come out of my ears. ;)

Just don’t use arrows that need feathers to hunt birds to get festhers. Wooden arrows one shot most everything in the meadows.

Yes. Shoot them on the ground with either arrows or spear. There's also crows in black forest.

Yes, that's what they're for! Only other place you'll find feathers is in chests in abandoned houses or towers.

The seagulls are too fast to melee attack, you need to use the bow. If you are using the crude bow, make wooden arrows as cheap ammo, and practice aiming rather high.

Who talked about melee? just throw a spear at it, its cheaper to make then a crude bow.

Trees are a good source of feathers. Later when you have your own tree farm you will have plenty.
