Bees
I have 3 hives built. 2 are fine and the third keeps telling me it needs more room yet no matter how much room i give it is not enough. is this a bug?

I've put four on the same floor tile on a pole. They seem to be fine right next to each other. Maybe it's a percentage exposure thing, the opposite of what workbenches have.

The game can be weird at times with stuff like cover as well. I've put four on the same floor tile on a pole. They seem to be fine right next to each other. Maybe it's a percentage exposure thing, the opposite of what workbenches have.
Something like angle to block like raycasting detection? Like framing a window will make it inside instead of exposed next to it... something like that anyway.
So it makes sense if they had a very high vertical next to them causing the issue.
I guess the best way to think of cover over a beehive is like an inverted cone?

Beehives hate a roof. I don't know why but my brother fought with this for days. He kept going higher and higher with a roof, iron beam work and all, they hated the roof.
The bees were not happy.

Oh yeah cover is what you want to avoid.

I am just saying you need to consider cover not just above but to the side as well. The cone is probably very steep, but still being too close to a high vertical wall might seem clear but still be considered "covered".

I think, from experience, it has to do with things above more than most. I have had similar bee hives similar to my pic below, but the trees they were around made them unhappy. I had to push the entry away from the trees and any nearby stone.. but that was in a build I lost.

Well yes "the most" and that angle is pretty shallow, not steep at all.Oh yeah cover is what you want to avoid.

OPs issue seemed to be resolved when he moved them away from a very tall wall. I was just explaining why that might be.
I think I figured it out. The area i had them in had really high walls. I moved them to another area with low walls and now all 3 are fine. Thanks for all the input.

Bees need a place. Not required field. Can be hung on the wall of the house. You need some space between the hives. The problem arises if there is a roof or balcony floor above them.

Screen shot probably needed, all I can guess is you have some manmade structure either too close near it or above it

Dont place near -any- structures (adjacent) and make sure the terrain is also level as up against a rock or similar it may cause it to not be ok.
You can also opt to try and put it on a pole as sometimes that'll make it work better.

At first i placed all 3 on short poles about 10 feet apart along my outer wall. Then i figured they might have been to close to the wall so i moved them out a bit. then i put them in the center of a large courtyard. each time 2 were fine the third was not. real odd. Ive not had this problem on other maps.

beehives in my experience behave very strangely, you can put two so close together that their roofs touch and they'll be fine, but add a third to that party and they all stop working. but you can make little cuddling pairs of beehives. i THINK it requires a spacing of one meter from its center give or take.

Shouldn't be too much of an issue frankly.
Do you mod your game?

Bee hives need to be enough far from each other (min 3 m ?) and must not have the roof or something else abow themselves and also must not be near the wall - you must try optimal location ;-) Please attention - place your bee hives far enough from you boar pen. When the event will start and some archer or dragon destroy some hive, bees will attack your boars ... ( My own experience :-D )
