Mob-spawn preventing in some area.

Hello.
I tried to search the forum/steam and google a bit but I failed to find what I look for.
I was wondering if it is now not possible to hide campfire or workbench beneath the ground? I saw workbench popped up.. and some of campfires after 10-15 minutes.
Is there any other way to keep them further away from the base when they spawn? Having campfires visible would be just.. ugly.
I'm playing with my wife, so I guess wards are off the charts, since people have to be allowed to interact with those I guess.
Edit. For now it seems that out of many camps, some randomly pop up, trying with different ways to rise the ground.

As I thought, benches aren't on the list. Thanks.

I build then into the walls. I have dug out holes and placed workbenches in them, then topped it with stone flooring at ground level.

Only issues with that is if too close to water (takes damage), or if in an area mobs do ground attacks (obviously will hit and damage/destroy the workbench).

Once I get into stone, I will usually dig up enough room for a workbench and stonecutter, then cover them up under floors. Heck, I even use stone foundations for pathways and stick them under those. You can't see them, but when you equip your hammer, you can see the area of influence for them and stick more in as needed for spawn prevention/repairing.
I see.. It might be viable way. Monsters won't attack flooring so easy I hope. Maybe I can deco it somehow underway, otherwise I will have tons of small patches of stone hehe. Thanks

I just tested benchs and they work well. I "conquered" a plains beach near to my spawn point after the first boss by cleaning the mobs there and placing some benchs to prevent normal/night spawn while I was building my main base. You can fortify the benchs or put in the ground, just be sure its not destroyed by the raids or greydwarfs. One brute destroyed a bench, I didnt notice and suddenly there was like 4 night fulings and 1 deathsquito that almost killed me (bronze armour).

I've seen yt tests and it was said benches, chairs and tables doesn't prevent spawn of mob. So I'm not sure to this one.

Well, so test yourself. I am mentioning what I have tested and saw it working, the bench prevents in the range of the white circle, because the fulings spawn was exactly the area where that specific destroyed bench was covering (the white circle of this bench was like 70% black forest and 30% plains).

Hmm.. I do that inside of the walls. Not the best thing building it out there, they will be targeted.. buut. I should consider this. It is still better they target them and spawn further away. It is easy to rebuild.
Thanks.

We reuse buildings in one of our camps. Though they failed quickly when trolls attacked. They don't have any defence value against those.
