Metal Transportation WOrkaround

Ok, before anyone says anything yes I know this is pretty much cheating, but you know what? I love trying to come up with creative fixes for things I dislike so... yeah.

Imagine you're out in the world looking for new land, resources etc. Maybe you land on a new island and find a buttload of copper and tin. Maybe you scale a huge mountain and you get some sweet dragon's egg, or you have valiantly fought off skeletons, drauger and hellish abominations and now have that iron you needed. After having explored and then toiled for your spoils its getting late. You dont want to walk/sail all the way back to your main crib because them shamen greydwafs are gunna be about and try to blow toxic fumes up your bunghole. You dont want to waste time and materials making a new shelter and thankfully you brought everything you need for a portal that you can tether to one previously made at your home. The thought of sleeping in your king sized viking bed while listing to your fermenter brew your favorite mead sounds so nice and relaxing. Suddenly you remember you cannot bring that ore or the dragons egg/whatever it is with you. You make the portal, drop a quick chest to stow your materials in and step through to sleep in your viking hostel. The next morning you wake up and dread the long haul trip back home to bring your goods back. You just want to get it over with and finally make that ancient bark spear or huntsman bow you've been longing to make. Sound familiar? Ok, here is your step by step process to getting them goods home without fuss or muss.

1) Log out. When you get to the main screen make a new world from scratch. Name it whatever you want then select it and send your character to this new world. You will find yourself starting at the shrine like always. Whats even better? You will have everything on your person, just like you had when you logged out from your main world.
2) Go find some wood (or pull out the stack you brought with you form your main world) and build a very simple shelter. Build yourself a nice little chest and place all your non-tranporatable materials in it.
3) Now, log out again. When you get to the main screen log in to your main world. You will find yourself standing in the same spot you left previously but now without your items you left in the alternate viking purgatory. Make your portal and step through because nothing is stopping you now.
4) Once you are safely at home again log out again and then select the alternate universe to join. You will find yourself standing in your little shelter with all of your non-transportable items safely in the chest. Pick them up. Log out.
5) Log back into your main world and lo and behold! You have successfully transported all of your metals/materials to your home without having to move more than a few feet.

This process is clunky and the back and forth is obviously not ideal but this allows you to save a LOT of time if you happen to branch out to new islands for materials/boss fights and dont want to waste 20-30 mins to walk or transport goods back and forth.

Another way to use this exploit is to treat it like a secret storage bag. You're out in the black forest and just pounding away at ore when you suddenly cannot carry anymore? Well just skip through the multiverse to your alternate timeline, drop off your heavy load into the chest, skip back over to the main world and keep pounding away at the ore all day long! Keep just enough on you when you're traveling back home to not be overburdened and then when youre sitting in front of your chests at home where you store your materials log out to your alternate space, pick up the extra materials then log back in and you have transported all of that materials without having to use that clunky cart.

Anyway, hope this helps. Keep on viking on'

The funny part to the "Ores cannot teleport" argument to me has always been: "Well if ore cannot teleport, why can my <<insert metal item here>>?" It doesn't make a lick of sense - except as a barrier to force players to haul stuff long distances - OR - to encourage players to settle in each biome as if we were wandering ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and NOT just perma-live in the Grasslands biome as most of us enjoy doing due to lack of constant enemy threats.

I've been curious since I've begun playing this game why they didn't give us a checkbox to simply enable the teleportation of ores as an option for those of us who want to do it.

Yep. And ores are a finite resource: if you play a long time on a server, EVENTUALLY ores in a region will dry up and you will HAVE to go looking for more.

Seems like a lot of work, when you could just download the simple teleporter mod than allows ores to pass through.

You can also use this for infinite resources if you dont want to use console commands or mods. You build a small storage hut in a new world. World hop all the resources you will want to the storage hut then quit the game and you make a copy of the world files and place them in a side folder. After the files are saved you can then raid that world as many times as you want for all those same supplies. When you take everything you just go and replace the world with the save file you made and all the resources will be there to take again.

Again it would be 1000000x quicker to just us console commands or mods lol.

Why not just use a mod to lift that restriction?
https://www.nexusmods.com/valheim/mods/61
It's not more cheating than world hopping, it's less time consuming and less immersion breaking. I also see this artifical restriction as a huge design flaw adding nothing to the game but annoyance and tediousness. And it does not make sense that an iron bar is restricted but forged into sword there is no problem at all carrying through a gate. This illogicality makes no sense and is just destroying my desire to play the game. Hence I use the mod (and some others) to make the game "playable" for me. So do yourself a favor and use this instead of your method. It makes things so much easier and is one point less to worry about.

I personally dont understand the restriction. Maybe they want you to explore? Maybe its based on viking lore with metal properties? I dont know but the fact we have portals makes no sense to me that some things can come through and others cannot. Being able to keep all of my materials in one place doesnt remove any important gameplay from my experience It just cuts down on the drudgery of busy work which is not something I enjoy in my gaming experience.

I believe they have the portal restrictions to make sailing a larger aspect of the game. If you can tp everywhere eventually you will just ignore the ocean and never sail unless you're hunting for serpent meat.

i use 'world hopping' for various reasons not just to avoid sailing..preferring not to use mods or just re-spawning copper..wood etc., which are getting scarce at day 1300..in my case i wish we had a special world portal in game as this would make the hopping easier :-) maybe more important we would not need to abandon our 'home' when major upgrades come out..just my two cents..

If you're going to cheat / exploit, why not just use console commands and give yourself resources?

I do what someone else suggested in the forum. I find an ore rich area, make an outpost there with a forge and a smelter. Don't need a kiln since coal transports thru portals. Then with the forge I just make and upgrade the weapons I need at site. No portal restrictions on the weapons. This is easier than above guide really. Your only out the 6 copper from building the forge that won't go thru the portal.

Of course you have to bring the copper with you by boat to mining area (if its on a different continent which I figure is what we are talking about.

Thats a fair take. My only push back is that forges require upgrades to make certain things. I found myself with materials spread over 4 different locations using the approach your mentioned. It works, but then I had materials sitting doing nothing while I tried to build the improvements in every locations which DOES add up over time.
