Anything new for returning launch player?
I'd like to cross-play with a friend of mine and while I did very much enjoy my time in Valheim the first time around in Feb-April '21, I was wondering if any extra biomes have been added and/or whether there are any more bosses to kill/extra "trophies" to take to the boss shrine thing when you kill them, or would my progression toward the end be the same? I see they added the Hearth Home update thingy, which is nice, but I'm more interested in differences in the game as you progress toward the end.
I did skim through the updates but most of them are small patches and nothing seemed to stand out as extra content. But it's been almost 2 years though so maybe I missed something? There seem to be so many to skim through, I thought it was just easier to ask.
Would my playthrough be the same?

Looks like there are some new things but sadly we're still waiting on Mistlands. It has been 20 months since the early access launch on Steam, this game might be fully completed in 2030 or something following how slow things have been moving so far.

I understand that you likely enjoy defeating the bosses in Valheim, mostly.
For a while, I was like you. I played like 34 hours solo, and may be 60 hours duo. I loved just defeating the bosses and running through the game as quickly as my skills would let me
It wasn't until I changed my playstyle with my friend, and we hunted for a good seed filled to the brim with islands (It's literally almost all tiny islands, separated enough so that enemies can't run through the sea to get to us). We enabled dev commands, found the perfect island to build a massive base on, and we farmed the materials needed for it.
The reason being why we enabled devcommands, was because we were trying to find a better island using the raft. The "Ocean" logo didn't even appear on the HUD before a serpent came up on us and murked us. This was after searching for a suitable island for about an hour on the raft, on a completely different seed. So, we did a hybrid "cheat"
We dev command gave ourselves our supplies that we had lost, and flew out to a perfect island that wouldn't be unreasonably difficult to completely terraform (think of like a city once we're done). Then we switched it back to survival mode and built a dock, then started building our base. It's massive now. We've got a perfect location to play the rest of the game from, and we've got a base that we can work on, rework, over and over again. It's minecraft but with physics and Viking themed. I don't see how people don't easily sink hundreds if not thousands of hours in this game just building, because I'll probably end up going that route.
We're on an island that has a tiny beachhead with a small bit of plains on it (we're avoiding that right now, and I deforested enough of the trees between them and us, that they can't reasonably find pathing to us). This makes hunting deer and boar super easy though We have islands near us with black forest and swamp, and there's a mountain nearby, as well as a very large island mass labeled mistlands, and then ashlands and then the snowy farlands very closeby as well. If you looked on a map where we are, we essentially are close to the outer edge of the circle. We dev command gave us portals and some defensive spikes and strong walls with a portal near the first boss / spawn point and then one at our base.
Our plan is, we are going to keep building our base bigger and bigger, adorning it with more and more decorations and flair (like 'x' beams, adding dimension to the base with 26deg and 45deg posts, overlapping beams, etc). This is definitely the seed we plan to play to the endgame with. Essentially, we're most interested in doing a "build of the month" than realistically beat the entire game on this seed, because that would take a while of waiting.
It's the perfect seed for when Mistlands drops, and it should be interesting, because we actually only made it through the meadows, black forest, and swamp. Getting endlessly murdered on the mountains or in plains wasn't interesting, when we were trying to speedrun the bosses with troll armor and lox capes, and...not the best food.
We play maybe twice a week since we have opposite schedules, for maybe 6-8 hours total. It's the perfect amount of time to slow play the first zones, so we don't over-extend ourselves
They've added new structural components, more food items, better food combos, mountain caves (which I have yet to explore), and they'll be done with the mistlands, I am guessing "worst case" January 2023.

Nothing if interest was added to players who are not dedicated builders.

streets of rogue 2 ftw. matt actually says valheim is one of the inspirations for it. No, basically nothing has been added to the game.
Development speed is glacial so it seems. I've seen solo devs make updates faster.

First there are no new bosses or biomes yet since launch.
In fact the mistland spider webs were removed to prepare for the update to them.
If you start from scratch with your friend you will see a lot of changes to progression in terms of food. You need chain and iron to cook larger meat. Lots of food prep upgrades and some added food items.
Probably the biggest change is adding in new light armor sets along with their respective mini bosses/areas. Added food options expand you choices of HHS or SSH. Some new toys as well, nice to have a proper fist weapon.
You can tame and ride lox now.
So it won't be exactly the same game but having played before it shouldn't confuse you or anything.
That said ... not sure what kind of state cross play is in right now. Before you commit to trying to play with someone you might want to ask around how the cross play thing is working or if it is out for whatever system your friend has yet etc. Servers have been buggy with it .. it might work ok if you host or something? Not sure what you intend to do but you should ask about specifics in that regard.
Good luck, have fun!

the worst thing is it broke +, so now mods dont work. u cant even use BETA to go back, cause the crossplay release a few days ago broke it. i won it a few times - meaning beating the plains boss man, now i use mods and its broke. sad but game is on shelf indefinitely. nothing major has been added that is worth the replay, imo

If you haven't played since actual launch, there's quite a few things you will notice. The game is noticeably less buggy and less prone to crashing. The food system has had an overhaul, as well as several new foods added. Mountains now have "Frost Caves" like the burial chambers in Black Forest or Sunken Crypts in swamps, with a few new mobs added in for such. The crystals we got for defeating Stone Golems now have a use. A new roof type and several other build items have been added, like windows. Loxen are now ride-able after you tame them (Previously, taming them wasn't really worth anything). A new troll-tier mob has been added to swamps, and a new blob mob has been added along with tar pits in the plains.
If you're more asking about the completion of new biomes, I'm afraid you're quite out of luck.
The modding community has provided content in leaps and bounds, however. and if you're set on getting back into Valheim, it's well worth looking into those. However, be forewarned that each minor update from the devs seems to break mods (not really the fault of the devs or the modders, but annoying nonetheless).
All the official updates considered, you're not really looking at much content-wise that would be different from your original launch playthrough, with the exception that you'll probably crash less often.

No your play through will not be the same, they made food way more complicated in an over hyped patch called, "Hearth & Home".
In addition you will find caves now above the obsidian line if you are lucky. This gave us 2 new mobs. Swamps have 1.
The next 'major' patch will be for mythlands, and I hope it isn't over hyped like H&H was but given the current track record.. who knows.

Yep, except the latest patch removed the Maypole but updated the crossplay.
If your after a bit more after launch content then it's still a waiting game.
