Advice on relocating base across water

So ive gotten to the bronze era and i have bronze gear and I have the boat, but I have to cross a big bit stretch of water to get to the second boss. What is the best way to relocate your base?

I'm playing solo and I feel like I'm about to hit a stage in the game that is going to take a ton of time to get past.

btw, I'm having a great time with this game so far. Im still getting the β™₯β™₯β™₯β™₯ scared out of me by trolls or whenever I go down a burial chamber. But I'm not dying as much so its getting better.

sailing or using a cart back and forth. The boat has its limits as well. Early models don't have a lot of storage on-board but the better model has a decent size.

SPOILER ALERT TIP
You cannot put anything else on the boat (falls off or just won't except it) except from what I hear is the wooden cart. Someone said before (haven't tried it) but you push the cart on the boat with extra stuff in the actual cart you can carry stuff quicker/less trips.

I personally use gates, so much easier to have a GATE ROOM hooked to all points. As you explore you can route a new gate to the sleeping house you live in. ALWAYS ALWAYS have a backup gate ready. Just my opinion, not trying to destroy the game for ya.

You'll probably want your next major base to be near iron, which means close to a swamp that has several crypts in it. Not every swamp has crypts. Look for the torches as you sail by. Then use portals to connect your bases so you don't have to build everything again.

Thank you for this advice. Would you suggest looking for this before taking on the second boss or afterwards? I got troll armor before I took on the first boss so I am just curious whether I should keep my equipment one step ahead.

I would recommend at least scouting the next biome up before killing the previous boss. Killing the boss (or was it mounting the trophy?) opens up the next level of base raids. This way you will be familiar with the new mobs that might show up before you unlock the raid.

(The Elder has something you need before gearing up to the next level, so it would be more trouble than it's worth to try to get a jump on the armor.)

What I do is set up a portal at my home base, the second one i carry with me. When I get to a new area for mining or whatever I build a small base camp and set up the portal there. When it's time to move on I leave the base, tear down the portal and move it to the next area with me. Once you're strong enough you can just build more portals and leave them at different bases, but always carry at least one with you when going to a new area. Also since you can't teleport with ore I found a trick around it. Open a second server and build a base and some chests to hold the ore. when you finish mining load up all your ore in your inventory and quit the game, join the second server and put all the ore in the chests. Then jump back to your main server use the portal to go home. Once at home quit and login to the other one, grab your ore and finally join your main server. Bam, you have just taken all the ore home without the travel issues.
Genius. I'm totally doing this.

The way we did it is that we had a starter base where we maxed out bronze age, then killed the second boss on another island (had a temporary camp there with beds, and a portal nearby), then noticed there is a massive swamp nearby the boss point, connected to a patch of meadows with a draugr camp with watchtowers and ocean access, so it was a perfect base location. We moved some bronze and copper there with the ship and and turned it into a lovely homestead. It is still our main base. After we mined out all the iron from 6-7 crypts, moved to another swamp with boat, built a smelter and forge base there with portal and didn't need to carry any iron back. We had to mine out two mountains (one near main base, one across ocean, we used the longship to haul silver back). On the 4th boss's mountain we made a mountain base underground with smelter and forge. On the next biome we are in the process of setting up another industrial base but out pretty main base is still the same as before, connected to the others with 6-8 active portals.

It's pretty annoying when you forget to bring the required amount of metals with you on that first voyage ... I know this from experience!

U can stay with one base and sail all materials back to it for crafting. If you however want to make a second base. u can and connect it with portals.

Ok personally i don't "relocate" so much as i have outposts on Islands with useful resources with one central hub and a portal hut there in. That way you can collect all your resources in one place and easily move them around when needed. Make sure its on the coast though so you can easily transport ores home over the water.

Have at least one spare boat to keep at your base, always have a spare unused portal with a name you remember at main base, and bring materials for a portal to the new island.
Do not sleep on the new island until you have a portal down.

These two things will give you the best chance of not getting stranded, trust me you really don't want to get stranded lol

OH and one last tip, never dock in the swamp you WILL lose your ship.

Outpost in a Swamp, Outpost/Dock in the Meddows. Do the run out of the swamp.
May take longer, but not as long as it takes to do a corpse run.

Thanks for this tip! I will do some more research before moving forward.
