Do raids spawn in areas you're in and developed but there is no workbench?
I've an off-base meat/carrot farm that I thought was safe since there isn't a bed. Turns out I'm wrong. The question is: will it help if I remove the workbenches at the farm?

Raids or some events like 'you are being hunted' comes after you. I got a lot in Mountains which game me time to get higher ground. When I was exploring plains. I was dead in 10 seconds of the event starting. I was surrounded and killed. This game only got 2 troll raids. For my animals, I put up earthen walls to protect them from anything.

don't attempt to defeat the Forsaken until you are truly ready. The key to not having raids is not killing the Forsaken.
The raids are retribution for your boldness, if you feel you can step into their territory take them to the mat, and call it a day. Well, they don't agree, and they don't like the idea either. Good luck! See you in Val! :) Boars can be tamed in the open, btw fyi, mine just runs free, but he sticks close to home, he likes getting fed.

that is a tasty morsel thank you! ....Most of them are crafting tables or something that creates light/heat.
Sidenote for those who enjoy good weather, sleep in the meadows. It improves your day to day weather considerably. yw!

It's not just the Bed that determines if you meet the requirements for a raid. It's being within 40 meters of at least THREE base structures. A workbench, campfire, and standing wood torch are all that's needed to set off a raid event. The "You are being hunted..." (wolves) event doesn't even need that.
The Wiki lists like 25 items that count as "Base Structures" for determining if a raid event will trigger. Most of them are crafting tables or something that creates light/heat.

1) Yes, raids spawn in areas you're in and built up if no work benches are nearby.
2) No. Workbenches and fires provide a "no-spawn" zone. Mobs can spawn outside that zone and attack you. If they can't get to you, they attack any unprotected buildings and farms. Place a fence or wall around your farm. That should protect it.
You haven't lived until you've had some fulings spawn inside your base at night. Ah, fun times. Found out I had a 1 meter area not covered by a workbench. Had to activate an older toon to get rid of the little snotlings.
This is partially accurate. A simple farm with no structures, or just a workbench will not generate a raid. There is a list of buildable items that will make a raid possible if 3 or more of them are in a certain proximity of one another. If you do an internet search there is a wiki

What Eightball said. Just don't go AFK so you will have the time to run out of your base when the raid happens.
If you have a pig farm however, I dug an extremely deep pit that I can push newly born pigs into right after being born. It has 2 layers of roofing. Its 100% sealed in. That is the only possible way to stop raids from killing every single pig you have.

Not quite. As long as you get out of the base quickly to fight, a barn type structure with a roof and a 2nd floor will protect your livestock long enough from most raids to save them all. The exception to that would be if trolls got inside your base. What Eightball said. Just don't go AFK so you will have the time to run out of your base when the raid happens.

You can build an earthen berm around your base and cover the inside area with work benches. If the berm is tall enough nothing but flying (and jumping) creatures can get in and you can protect your livestock by making an enclosed and roofed barn. You can make a completely bermed farm and build it so that only portals can be used to come and go from the farm (instead of using a gate) and farm in all most complete peace..

The key to raids is, as @TangoBlue says, they are after YOU.
So I have found the best option is to go out and fight them in the field away from my buildings/animals. They will only destroy your stuff if they cannot get to you; as in you are cowering behind a wall.
