I got a couple of 1 star boars but as soon as they where tamed - the star disappeared... Since then I haven't cared. Maybe a bug?

Yes - then make sure that the wild boars follow you to your base.

Or alternatively build a second base to breed the animals.

In the area of your actual base, the principle applies - kill all wild boars until something better comes - and then you tame that.

I must have killed a hundred wild boars before the first 1 star wild boar came, and I continued until the first 2 star wild boar arrived - I then tamed it and bred it with it.

Now I only have 2 star wild boars.

I've been trying for wolves so far no luck with 1 or 2 star. I did get three Fenrings at once. Bonemass comes in handy with them.

For me going to a new seed world and starting over is not something I wish to do. Already had to go to a second world just for tar. Too much exploring my first world while waiting for new content messed with the spawning of tar pits.

I found 2 one star boars so far. For me, they were in the meadow absolutely the furthest from my base and near edge of black forest.

It depends on what it is you are trying to find. For boars, the starred versions tend to spawn at the boar stones or further out from the spawn area. Near the spawn they seemingly try to make things a bit easier by making starred variants of mobs less likely (even the somewhat beneficial mobs like boars) so if you are still pretty close to the world's spawn area, you are less likely to find starred critters.

Since H&H update i found stared more close to the center than before but its luck more than anything , in my 3rd seed i found a pair of 2 stara boar together like 200m away from the center
In boar runes if you are luck can spawn one of these or 1 star one
