Roofs breaking even with crazy amount of supports.

I've no idea how this game calculates if something is supported or not, but I've tried everything possible to support this roof short of completely filling my house with poles to ensure every roof tile has something directly under it, and they are still breaking. The color coding that should show you if something is weak shows that they're fine after I place them. Then a few minutes later they just decide to break. The supports I placed to hold them up are standing just fine, and aren't even showing they're weak. But any roofs I put down just break.

I get that it's trying to be 'realistic', but when half the draw of the game is getting to build your own fortress, maybe the support system needs a second look.

you lack support, no matter what color it is when you place it, its not enough from the sound of it This interface could be better, for sure.

Well, I'm just going to download a mod to disable the support system till I hear it gets revisited in an update. Hopefully the support system is one of the things they'll work on in the next major update that's coming. Honestly, I like when a game encourages you to support your buildings, as it ends up with you making more realistic and interesting structures, but there's a fine line between realistic and frustrating.

Good choice. Save yourself the trouble and have fun. Would have saved me a lot of trouble such a mod on our server xx.

Have you tried to build with Iron Beams yet?

That post has absolutely no idea what he's talking about like half the people in this thread.

Look at the colour of the pieces with the hammer equipped. It essentially gets redder the further it is from a blue foundation piece, starting with green. If your supports are red, it doesn't matter how many there are, they have reached the limit of their structural integrity.

Different materials have different abilities with regard to how far they can be built.

Have you waited for the colour coding to settle? When you place a new piece they all turn green and slowly turn yellow/orange/red, if that's not the case all i can think of is that your floor may be floating and needs support to support the beams and roof, also which type of wood do you use?, core wood is stronger than basic wood and offers more support so you won't need to fill your house with beams, also from personally experience i try to build a chimney in the centre of my house to offer support, if it's a bug i can't offer any advice sorry i hope this comment helps

P.s about the floor you'll want it to be blue, if it's green it's floating

Supports are yellow or better. Roof pieces look orange after I put them down, then end up breaking three or four minutes later. It's like their strength degrades over time for some reason.

How high up off the ground is this roof? If you're working with wood and core wood, you're going to have trouble going beyond about three poles (12m) high with your roof.

But if there is anything grounded nearby, like a tree or a tall rock or a cliff, it counts as a ground level support for anything it touches. Jutting a beam horizontally of it to as high a point as possible can be one way to get a lot of extra stability.

I would recommend not installing mods for a simple learning curve like this, to each their own but this is part of the game. Show a screenshot what you're building, maybe we can help.

Building is simple. It counts ONLY the number of connections to "ground" (blue pieces). Less than 8 and you should be ok. Some materials like stone or iron/wood beams will allow you to build "blue" higher up.

Core wood helps, and if you can build a stone column up then add the roof the first connecting piece will be blue making stronger roof supports

With regard to equipping the hammer, be sure you have it in the Repair mode then put the cursor on the supporting piece to check its stability.
