there are tiny islands in the ocean which have a special resource on its back. with which you can craft an amazing dagger to deal with trolls and the black forest in general


make a boat and go explore (for this you need to mine copper)

it is a thing you can do in between.

Unless they patched it you can skip the Elder and phase into the Swamp Crypts by making a work bench with a chair at the entrance.

edit: You can also skip the first boss by using Trolls to mine copper / tin for you and then make a bronze pick axe.

I'm still reading that linked wiki as either troll or elder can both enable the event but only elders wiki page contains mention of the event enabling. Same with wolves and bonemass

It says "and" not "or." If you got trolls before the Elder then maybe someone else on your server did it.

I often leave Bonemass for awhile, since you can find silver in the mountains with a stagbreaker. It takes more time, but it works. No wolf event until Bonemass is down. I can explore the mountains in relative peace. But you'll want the Bonemass buff before the plains, so I do Bonemass and Moder pretty close to each other.

Only boss kills advance the event clock. But after the Elder it will check if you have killed a troll for the troll event. Secure your base before killing the Elder.

I usually procrastinate on bosses until I have a decent foothold in the next biome up. That way I'm not surprised by the raids.

Added: for the boars, either turn on PvP, or craft a butcher knife when you get a forge.

Why are you so terrified of the Black Forest raid? It's just a bunch of greydwarves that you can mow through easily. The raids are also extremely rare.

You're massively gimping your progression by putting off the ability to mine ores for no good reason.

To answer your question, raids only trigger based on boss kills. While a troll is way harder than the first boss, killing one won't have anything to do with raids.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong on the troll not mattering, as the guy above said you need to kill Elder and at least 1 troll for troll raid to happen.

Secure your base with a ditch. Little wood fences don't work very well past the meadows event. It will take some time so just build a ditch all the way around your base with room for some gardening within the area. Dig deep enough that you get straight sides that critters can't just run up and down at will. Then go kill the elder. Dig down under his alter area and put your portal there and can even set up a sleep area with bed. Some folks even make real bases under the alters.

To kill it, use your trusty axe, it's a tree, when you can and play hide and seek behind pillars rest of the time and give him some fire arrows. He doesn't turn fast so go in back of it. If it gets too intense, jump down in your hidey hole and regen. Move away from the womping willow branches but don't use up all your stam. You will be fine.

For all those that say it's easy, good on them. We are all different in our playstyles. Ignore them, it's just humble bragging anyway. Kids.

Greydwarves are easy, weave around trees and two hits with L3 flint axe does the job. It is the troll attacks I do not want to trigger yet.

Thank you all. I love taking my time, built 2 larger houses, have at least 10 huts outfitted with campfires and food as refreshment areas in meadow woods and am planing to do the same in Black Forrest areas, in order to find a future site I really like. No rush here to fight bosses asap.

You can reduce the number of lodges you require by getting some surtling cores found in the black forest dungeons and setting up portals. You can teleport instantly between 2 linked portals as long as you are carrying no ore or smelted metals. (Products made from smelted metals like weapons, armor, and nails will also teleport without restriction).

I read about the troll armor hide. Can you kill them before Elkthyr, or does that trigger main Black Forrest raiding events that normally come later?
Even have a boar pen but can not kill them.
Also, the weather seems to change for the worst slowly but steadily, am on day 162.

no need to worry - the bosses will trigger events
so you can beat up trolls as long as you want without triggering other events
