Bone chip arrows?

I have TONS of bone chips, and absolutely nothing to do with them. Early in the game we need them for troll armor but later in the game I am getting them in quantities of 10x what I did in early game and 0 use for them. The skeleton surprise event is absolutely infuriating.

How about just adding a bone chip arrow that was slightly better than wood and took 1 feather? At least this would save bone chips from the obliterator

Bone bolts cost 8x bone & 2x feather to make 20 bolts, yes? 10 mats to make 20 items? Well, the obliterater turns 10 of any item into one coal, so for the cost of a few feathers you could double your coal yield from bone.

Except 20 arrows/bolts equal 1 coal, not 10, the devs thought of this already and prevented this from being profitable

For whatever reason several materials are omitted for certain ammo types. There's no black metal or bone arrows but there is for bolts. For bolts i wish we could make silver bolts since im sure a ton of people have a backstock of silver they can't do anything with.

Really? In my main world I have (black metal) chests full of black metal, but silver takes work, so why would you mine significantly more than you need?

I installed V+ on my main world for a while, partly to use the auto-fill mod to allow me to process all the BM that I had (I don't know why), and forgot about all my wood (normal, core, and fine), that I had in chests, and is now coal! :-)

You can tell it not to do that.

But yeah I was always tossing away bones, until I wanted to make a dead raiser, then I was glad I kept at least a stack around.

there is a type of ammo you can use them for later. Its not very good, but if you just want ammo to level your skill on dwarves...

given how easy it is to make better ammo than that with equally spammy stuff, coalify them is still the better option. What you got against free coal -- I havent needed a kiln in years... :)

kidding aside I support making more stuff with the bone. I would prefer some sort of structure, but food or ammo works too.

Historically speaking there is little difference between the damage that a flint tipped or bone tipped arrow did. The flint tipped arrow caused the target to bleed. The bone tipped arrow did not. There are other things in game that become pretty much obsolete and just need to be thrown in the obliterator.

You can make bone bolts for the crossbow, so if you want to use your bones up, just use the crossbow instead of the bow.

Yeah, my top 5 most obsolete items are:
1. Greydwarf Eyes
2. Troll Hide
3. Resin
4. Wolf Pelt
5. Lox Pelt

Graydwarf eyes are still required for portals and Eyescream but you could replace that entry with entrails. Once you get to the mountains and tame wolves and get onion seeds entrails for sausages are pretty much obsolete.

Definitely this. The moment I switched from my Dragur Fang to an arbalest, I went through my bones in a heartbeat. The bone bolts are pretty bad in comparison to the carapace bolts, but it's still more than regular bow pierce damage.

Definitely agreed on the lox pelts/troll hide, but I keep using wolf pelts for rugs in new outposts and I keep using up the sausages and mid-range stam foods (eyescream) that others in my server aren't using at the house anymore on safer (non-eitr) trips.
