This is hilarious, but a reasonable course of action... *grin* yep when i get mugged by 6/7 wolfs i tend to run away
When leaving the red 'event circle', the event doesn't reset, but the timer stops.
All events only last for a certain amount of time
(iirc something from 90secs to 3mins depending on the event).

Dont you get raids when you kill a certain boss? Nothing to do with the trophies?
Killing the bosses doesn't matter. The base attack events don't progress until you actually hang their trophies. This affects all players on the server, so a brand new player starting out on an older server is going to have a really rough time evading all of the greydwarf brutes and shamans and everything else that comes out at night.

To expand a little, you can stay inside your house/lodge/viking hall and wait for the timer to run down; step outside your abode and duke it out with the wolves,; or run for your life outside your base, as you did. Hiding in your ben and waiting out the event has the disadvantage of leaving your base structures at the mercy of the wolves. Duking it out with the wolves has the disadvantage of dying if you can't handle the whole mob. Leaving the base has the disadvantage of stopping the event duration timer.
I prefer to step outside the house, fight as long as I believe I safely can, and the step back inside the house to recover health and stamina and repair my gear. The nstep outside again.
If the fight takes me away from the house, I will leave the base to recover health and stamina. I may have to run like hell to ditch pursuers but that is better than dying. I will return to fight again as soon as I can. (Got to restart the event timer.)
I have four doors in my house and three gates in my base wall to facilitate coming and going. Another caveat: shut the door behind you when leaving the house. If you get killed, you don't want to share your respawn bed with White Fang and his pack.

If it wasn't like that you could simply run away/portal away from your base every raid and have no worries since as soon as you are far enough away everything unloads and nothing would be damaged. Then you could just come back after the raid ended.

And what would be so bad about this? Would that affect YOUR game if I played like this?
I would even like to have an option where I could turn off these raids. When I bought the game a few months ago, Steam didn't say anything about tower defense.
I bet there is a mod for this.

Wolves can't climb ladders...
Try climbing up on top of your roof and either wait out the timer or kill the wolves with your bow ;)
The same goes for the Fulings later on, but then the Plains have many huge rocks that you can climb that they cannot too ;)

I raised this same subject recently because I was facing much the same problem with a corpse run to a plains camp. I was told by a very helpful player that the event will just remain there until I returned to the location, where it would play out.
However...
...I wanted to see what would happen if I just left the event going, so I stayed well away from the encampment (I think it was a continent or so away), so while I geared up and tinkered around my other encampments, a new event occurred at one of the outposts we'd set up, replacing the event where my corpse was, switching it to my current location, allowing me to take a portal back to get my gear. The good sh*t. So it seems that, if you don't want to face wolves (and if you're packing anything less than silver armour/weapons-- I can understand why), you can head elsewhere and wait for a new event to occur, or buff up until you're ready to go back and face the wolfpack.
Also, Weaver's right, if you get far enough away so that your base-- everything at that location despawns, you won't have to worry about the hostiles destroying your base. That was also one of my concerns when I raised this issue. The hostiles can only damage your base/camp when you're close enough to it for the base to have spawned in. Nothing can happen to your base while no one is in it.

Don't hang the boss trophies and you won't get invasions...other than the Neck and Boars attacking which is like free food anyway. Too late for your current world of course, but you could start a new one and keep it 'peaceful'.

Possibly. I've under the impression it was the hanging them and receiving the buff. This is based on what I've heard though as I've not tried it myself. I'll delete my post since now I'm not so certain.

Killing the bosses doesn't matter. The base attack events don't progress until you actually hang their trophies. This affects all players on the server, so a brand new player starting out on an older server is going to have a really rough time evading all of the greydwarf brutes and shamans and everything else that comes out at night.
