Help us build and save time
Let's say you have a bunch of materials stored in multiple chests in your base. It would be nice, while using the hammer at your base(inside of the workbench area), if the materials would automatically be taken out of those chests so you could build...a tanning rack, for example. Instead of having to search through your chests, find your materials, then have to go build that item. Hope this makes sense.

@DathTanyion I don't know if you have ever developed a game, but you must realize that adding enough 'options' to please every player would basically make games so bloated and code heavy no one would probably make them anymore.
Can you even name one game that has enough 'options' to please every player, that not one player ever complained about not having this-or-that QoL or game play option to turn this thing on or this thing off? I seriously doubt you can, but if you can I will look into it from sheer curiosity.
Developers make the game they envision and players can enjoy that game within the parameters and with the mechanics the developers give them or they can mod the game to their liking.
And as to Valheim + there are just over 385K unique downloads, so in no way a majority based on sales, but a big number. Do people who have downloaded played the game through on vanilla once or more before they download it having experienced the game the developers made first? No way to tell. Do people who have downloaded it now refuse to play without it? No way to tell that either. But with no way to define what is fun for some and not for others the mod allows some people to play an altered game they like.
Ultimately games are like cars in that no one game or car will ever have all the options everyone might every want. You pick one you like and if later on you think it needs some changes you get it customized.

Also, you're apparently playing Vanilla which typically only noobs, people who don't know how easy it is to mod, and people wanting to use devcommands/cheats play, as intended by the Devs. Yes, it's weird that in Valheim if you want to play a legit game, it must be modded and Vanilla is the "cheat all you want" server.
This sentiment is so far out there it made me chuckle, thanks for the laugh!

no. manageing your stuff correctly is part of the intended gameplay design. why do you think you can just smash stuff on the floor right next to where youre building. that isnt just for cosmetics.
SAVEING TIME. plays valheim. a game supposed to NOT SAFE TIME by its very own core design.
not every game is supposed to be fast and quick.
use mods if you want that. dont try to force this on everyone. thats casulization. we have too many games that do this already. this game targets a niche audience at its core. not the mainstream.
Bro, I'm playing with portal can use everything, stam recovers 50% quicker, food lasts 25% longer, chests can auto input items to smelter, kiln, spinning wheel and windmills, and work stations can draw from nearby storage. We also increased the enemy difficulty and have died several times still.
Even with all that my buddy and I just got to the iron age and it's been over 30 hours.. so even with all those "cheats" or whatever dudes like you will call them the game still take a great deal of time. We are having a much more fulfilling experience because what we spend our time on is actually fun.
Also these things should be "options" in the base game that we can all choose to play with or play without. Do you know how many users have downloaded Valheim Plus and refuse to play without it? 100s of thousands. Adding options to the game can't hurt it. We should all be able to play how we want.

I like the vanilla game. I have played with dev commands before but i enjoy the grind of a purely vanilla experience. unfortunately some people like to look down their nose at others for a simple QoL question with their snooty answers and assumptions. that's cool. you like mods, great. you want to play vanilla, great.
playing vanilla requires you to be organized in how you store inventory. once you have things organized, the grind goes a lot more smoothly.

There are psychological reasons why limited or no QoL can work / be good in common situations, so i wont say i want QoL, but i have to agree, Valheim is not prepared to do big projects, while also those projects are amazing.
So my idea would be to provide QoLs at a ingame cost. Like specific auto using/sorting chests that take a bit more materials to craft. Or magical bags for building materials. Special crafting stations that allow for whatever cool features Valheim+ has etc.
But otherwise, yeah leave the significant QoL to mods, and fix the simple stuff thats just janky for no reason.

I'm going to assume you're new since you're asking for something basic and as well known to exist as this.
Anyhoo....
So yes, there's a simple, basic mod that does this already. Now the negative....the reason that a lot of servers don't use this mod is it allows anyone that comes to your workbench the ability to craft from your chests too. Even if your chests are hidden, if it's within range a person could craft themselves a nice set of armor with your materials. This is the primary reason most people on multi player servers don't like this function. In case you're wondering, no....wards do not prevent this.
Dude, wtf are you talking about? You don’t have to be a noob, don’t know how to mod or want to cheat to use vanilla. Vanilla is literally the intended way to play. Devcommands are not intended gameplay (they literally used to be called “imacheater” commands). Mods aren’t even officially supported by the devs. It’s entirely reasonable to suggest something that someone already made a mod for, since most people don’t want to play modded valheim. Your generalization isn’t only wrong, but doesn’t even capture the majority opinion.

There seems to be an assumption among a portion of the playerbase that the game is too difficult, and the only way to play Valheim is through cheats or mods. The self gratifying explanation is that anyone who doesn't use mods either is a cheat or a noob.

Valheim Plus just one more incredible reason to stop playing vanilla and to play with mods.

^ ^ ^ This. In a previous update recently they said they'd be looking at QoL, and this is one of the big ones. For cooking, crafting, etc. Grounded added the same thing, and it was so nice.

There's a mod that does exactly that as I recall. But I think having organized chests really helps.
