It's a good place. Not big enough for a base imo, more of an area camp but you can get 2 floors in there.

I don't know about it being the best, but it is the most secure. Nothing can get to you under there. Excellent place to raise chickens.

I wanted to build some kind of crypt down there but the idea with the chicken seems much more appealing....

Is it more secure than a smallish island covered with workbenches? Nothing would even spawn there.

That being said, I always love building an underground base.

Having nothing spawn is probably more secure than the altar, where you'd still have things roaming outside your door.

But I consider both of those to be overkill because I usually just do a moat and wave at the mobs that run around and curse me for it. But I haven't had to worry about seeker raids yet. (They're easily avoided by basing in the meadows which I normally do anyway.)
